USed EH Humdebugger in route to me --- fellow RIGHT HERE in FLO-ri-DUH! should be able to comprise a foolish fools essay if not a complete review by the weekend....... I am thinking a TRUE comp would be Here is an unshielded guitar that hums---- here is how it sounds with the Bugger mugger...

I just dont use it-- I dont play out-- dont play at high volumes---dont use a ton of gain......so well there ya have it---

Not by design. From what I’ve been able to determine, it uses the AC signal from the power supply as a reference frequency (which should be 60 Hz. That’s why it requires an AC power supply, not a regular DC power supply). Then it uses that frequency and it’s harmonics, reverses their phase 180 degrees, and mixes them back with the guitar signal.

The result is that the hum and/or the harmonics of the hum frequency (which should be 60 Hz and it’s harmonics - the same as the reference frequency from the power supply) that have been induced into the guitar signal will be cancelled out.

I don’t think this pedal would be very effective against other externally induced noise, like cell phone interference. But, it should work for most of what you encounter at a gig. This is because just about everything we would encounter that would induce noise would emanate interference at the mains frequency or its harmonics.

Electro-Harmonix recommends placing it first in the signal chain, before other pedals. If you placed it later in the chain and noticed a beneficial effect on white noise, that would be coincidental, not intentional.
