Jackson / DiMarzio Pickup Observations:

Ok, I wanted to create a thread for this because I found a few interesting things that I think are deserving of mention. My Jackson Adrian Smith has a DiMarzio DP100 in the bridge (super distortion) and a pair of Jackson single coils.

The DP100 has enough string pull to induce an oscillation (Wolftone) at anything less than 11/32" from the strings. It is noticeable on the g/b/e from about 14th fret upward on single notes. The same is true with the Jackson single coils. They need to be almost flush with the pickguard in order to eliminate the wolftones. The main issue here is that when set this low, they have very little punch and require much higher gain settings. If all you do is play power chords, you won't notice a problem from the high pickup setting. But, if you play the intro to "Still Got The Blues" by Gary Moore, the Wolftones make the intro a complete and total sonic mess.

Other than the pickup anomalies, this Jackson just has to be one of the best guitars out of the box that I have ever brought home. You cannot make it go out of tune.

My plan is to install some 10-15 year old pickups I have laying around here and see if I can get closer to the strings without getting the wolftones.

As far as single coils are concerned, I think I am going to build a pair just for this application, with adjustable pole pieces and a dummy coil like Hackmaster likes to use. I need a very low magnetic pull to be able to get within 4/32" of the strings.

purchaserd on ebay from a guy (like stratosphere) but he mostly buys discounted (USED) referb gutiars --there are several places you can do this -- my "local" shop in Alabama did it as well -- all the Epiphones had that same USED stamp and a decal seriel #

these (my UNDERSTANDING) went out -- had an issue and were returned to the factory for repair-- but can NOT be sold as new--

totally top side and legit practice-- it allows many Mom and Pops who know this option to survive and stay open (and price comparative) among the Sam Ash and Guitar Center JUGGERNAUTS of volume ---

lol
Im an ambassador-- those guys are MASTERS -- true story the owner of trhe shop in Daphne AL, WAS going to take me on one of his buys --- he would take a box trailer and head up to Nashville and buy all he could haul---to stock his shop-- you had to be licensed at the time to buy from this place-- but LIFE got in the way-- work-- career and location change and it never happened------oh if I coulda got my Ferengi fingers in that door!!!!

ANYONE with deep pockets wanna open a STORE????

this is the place-- I just never could FLIP that much gear----and work a fool time job to pay the bills----

IF I ever get the "seed" money ---- Look out world "Bad Hubby Guitars" is going GLOBAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be like asking a junkie to stand on a corner and sell drugs.

Robert/eSGEe,

If I am not mistaken, the import Adrian Smith model has the truss rod adjustment at the heel of the neck, whereas the US model has it at the nut.

Not sure. I've found both USA and import Jackson's to be equally well set up and built. This is a good guitar!!!

my querstion is ---- does it really matter if the guitar sounds---works and plays well?

Go make some dough Bobby........I got a few other guitars Ill sell ya ;)

Got a Black/Red/Black pickguard coming from Stratosphere, to replace the single ply...

Found an old pickguard with some hum cancelling single coils...

Gonna upgrade to steel saddles...

And Straplocks too!!!!!

HSS rout is stupid. Due to overhanging fretboard, neck must be removed to swap pickups....

Jackson gets relieved for Stratocaster style triple control pots:
