NAD: Thing 1 & Thing 2

Arrived early yesterday...fitted a Genelex B759 Gold Lion to Todd's AVT50 and repaired the clipped reverb tank wires, restoring reverb function.

The AVT50 has a tiny PC fan, that's built into the board, and pointed at the tube. I cleaned all the pots and switches, plus all the jacks...

Decided to try the new DSL40C out yesterday. Rehearsal was a full 10 hours, not including the 90 minutes we took.off to BBQ.

The new (vintage trim) DSL40C was switched on and left on the entire 10 hours.

It worked well, although I did notice a few things.

First and foremost, the gain with stock ECC83 tubes is somewhat harsh and not as "organic" and smooth as the 12AU7/ECC83S/ECC83MG/5751 combination. I also noticed the amp is more prone to feedback, most likely due to higher gain production.

The stock 70/80 speaker has more high end emphasis whereas the WGS Reaper 55Hz speaker has more emphasis on low and mids.

Another oddity is the "Tone Shift." It works backwards of all other DSL40C's I've played with. On this amp, "In" is off and "out" is on....strange.

So definitely a tube and speaker swap is order, but the amp has proven itself ...
