As I mentioned a few weeks ago while working on my G&L, I was not pleased with the tiners that it was equipted with.
Well that has been resolved.

I have installed Hipshot Locking Tuners on it.
I had hoped to use their UMP -universal mounting plate, but alas it is sized for a Fender and G&L tuner spacing is not the same as a Fender.
Oh well I just drilled some holes and its a done deal.

Also with the Hipshots you do not need a string tree because they are staggered height stems.

@syscokid Hipshot tuners have what is called the UMP plate that allow you to mount the tuners without drilling any holes.
In theory it is a great idea for upgrades on vintage guitars. I hoped that the hole alignment on G&L matched that of Fender, but they dont.

I have those same tuners installed on my Fernandes Strat. They are the best tuners I've ever used. I drilled mine also. Looks better.

AAHHH that makes me feel better hearing that. Not that G&L's are collector pieces or any thing like that. \
I just hated adding extra holes, but then you cant see them so what the hell.
And like you said they are great tuners.

Thanks, CF. I got that style of Hipshot tuners on a couple of my guitars.

This a '97 Gibson All American II that I refinished from black to heritage-cherry, and replaced the stock tuners. I kept the UMP's on there:

This pic is showing my Strat's original neck side-by-side with the new Warmoth neck that I would later install. UMP's are installed, but I like the look better without them on there:

No UMP's...:

Did you know that crooked high-E tuners make for better tone and sustain?

Nice looking necks, I have always gotten nice necks from Warmoth.
Warmoth is good stuff. But you pay for the quality, too. My slight regret with the Warmoth neck was to spec it with size 6100 frets. These frets are wide and extra tall. Almost too tall for my playing comfort. Might as well have a scalloped fretboard... ha ha! Should have ordered the 6105's or the 6150's... :BH:

Nice,
I have the staggered tuners on my Johnson ( insert obligatory joke here), and love them.

I like not having a string tree (s)
Enjoy in good health.

Almost all of my Warmoth necks I ordered with SS6150s. I like them.

Can't recall if its 6130 or 6230, but I like the tiny, vintage Fender frets...
Cool article on frets and their different sizes:

And an old Dunlop pic I copied from that article:

I guess those massive 6100's on my Strat's Warmoth neck means that I should be Extra High for playing Rock N Roll... :dood:
