...I got the 59' Fender Bassman Re-Issue up and running and holy hell what an awesome sounding amp! Four 10" speakers are the $hit! Thing almost blew me over from the
sound pressure coming out of it!

The resistor was the only real issue. A bad tube caused it to burn and there was very little damage to the circuit board. I replaced it and the one next to it due to the heat
it caused. I also replaced all the capacitors since I had the amp apart and it's a real bitch to work on! Installed a complete new set of tubes and it's Rockin'

I'm going to model it and then play the modeled amp profile through the Kemper to a power amp and then to the Bassman 4x10's to see for myself how close it gets.

I've never modeled and compared an amp I actually own. This will give me more of a definitive answer on just how good Kemper profiling is!

Yeah, 4 x 10's are the shizz. I've thought a few times about getting something like a 4x10 Avatar, because every time I have played through a Fender or Peavey 4x10 amp I've been blown away by how tight the low end is. Guess there's a reason bass players favor them...

Was this a smoked power tube screen resistor?
I had this happen on my Silkyn as well.
The resistor failing open may have saved your PT.

Yes, it's that Bassman. I had a thread on it, but I just decided to ope a new one. I believe you are right about the resistor saving the XFormer.

Did your Silkyn blow the resistor before or after the new transformer install?

I love 4x10 combos until I have to load it in/out of a Venue with stairs. For that matter just getting it into the car is a pain. When you get on stage and can open up the volume it is all worth it.

Man, I quit on combos altogether because of the weight. Then I found that I really liked having a couple of different heads and a bunch of different cabs to choose from. Makes getting the specific sound I want at any given time a bit easier.

I also love the idea of a bunch of different cabs and I have 5 right now. I have a 1x8 that I made from a blown Ampeg Combo. Two 1x12's, a 2x12 and a 4x12. All of them have different speakers.

I'd like at least one more cab with 1 or 2 (or 4) Jensen Jet Series Blackbird Speakers...maybe a 4x10 with those???

That would make a nice cab. When I was toying with getting a 4x10, I think I was going to put Celestion G-10's in it. If my last band hadn't ended abruptly I do think I would have gotten it.

Right now, I am using my Recto 1x12 the most. Haven't plugged into my 4x12 in about a year.

I'm trying to move my 4x12. It's loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's. It will have to be a local sale...I'm not shipping it! I may sell off the speakers individually???

I hear ya. For me, 4x12's are strictly for live use, where you need the spread and volume. My sealed-back 1x12 (Mesa V-30) basically sounds exactly like it's big brother but just doesn't move as much air, which I don't need these days.

I've been trying to nail down the age and date of manufacture of this Bassman. After contacting Fender it's been verified as December 1997! I was still
living in Japan when she was coming off the line...

it was with the stock power tubes on the stock PT. My PT never fried; I was going to play it until it did but was concerned about collateral damage.
I noticed a lack of volume and realized one power tube was cold or cool / the filaments were still glowing. I did have it biased pretty hot at the time, dont recall the % power dissipation or ma, but recall it was somewhere over 70%.

I have the parts for the dirt channel mods to get closer to JCM800 / 2204 50w specs but just (as usual) have not had the time and other priorities.
Been playing it on the clean channel with pedals mostly. The cleans and the reverb are really sweet Fender BF.
It really shines with a mid heavy OD like a TS, etc.
It sounds really good / classic rock tones with PAFish A5 bridge HB pickups and the Mosky Obsessive OCD clone too.
STill cant quite get the trebly grit similar to UFO Rock Bottom or Doctor Doctor but that may be I really cant crank it to serious power tube OD.
I cant take the volume. its too loud/ guess I'm too old, F*ck!!

Be looking forward to the results of this. Glad you got that amp fixed. There should be a 4x10 Club...
