I’m curious about the results.
My unscientific tests follows: lol

Without d.i. box, with adapters. Hum. Lots. Loud. Signal behind hum seems alright- no coloring from what I can tell.

Original cables, to make sure one last time, and I can confirm. Hum. Lots. Loud. See above comments.

With box, no hum, I'm sure anything you connect adds it's own thing. But I'm not hearing it, and it's so, so quiet.

My fix has to be the box........this time.

I’m glad you’ve found a happy place! Thanks for the update....And thanks again for pushing me (unknowingly) to finally upgrade my monitors! The old ones are going to a good home(in transit as I type)...one that may be better suited for them(maybe a bit smaller room).
Oh, and as it turns out, I may have a use for one of those little boxes...the last two inputs on my interface are RCA/unbalanced...I’m going to see if they’re up to snuff, with adapters, this week....if not....well...

Well if you end up with a bad hum, I know a guy, that knows a guy, whose friend can give you a suggestion lol.

Righton enjoy my friend.

Indeed! I’ve done that with quarter inch, but never with RCA. Too lazy I guess...just really never had to.
His speakers actually have the proper input for his interface outputs(RCA to RCA), but he had hum when properly connected.

"...he had hum when properly connected..."

This is a ground loop hum.
Disconnect ground (sleeve / shield / screen) from ONE end of the audio cable (on one plug only).
This will happen when there is two or more pieces of equipment running on mains power. All the equipment is grounded to the mains lead. (3 prong power plug on the mains lead)
Since all the gear is already grounded to the mains, it doesn't need an additional ground from the audio cable. This is what causes the ground loop.

Any time you have more than 1 ground going to a piece of gear, there is a potential for a ground loop hum.
That's fixable by disconnecting the second ground path, usually the audio cable.

Agreed. I am not the one with the hum issue.

Me either, anymore.

I did see that in one of the earlier replies as a cause, but adressed it and still had the issue.

The tech support at KRK ( manufacturer) was the source of me wanting to fix the balanced - unbalanced deal. But they were, correct, once that issue was resolved voila, sweet beautiful nothing lol.
