Anyone with Vox AC10 or 15 experience.?have F & M covered & looking for the tonal shift from them. Used mainly mic'd for leads in recording. Have Many greenbacks if flavor is needed. The Ac10 would be cool as a grab & go like my studio Ampeg bass Rig..Thanks for any input

A friend of mine loves his AC15. His only complaint was being lost in the mix, and overpowered by the drummer when rehearsing or playing live without amps being mic'd.

You won't have that issue from the sounds of it.

I had an AC15 C2 for about a year. It was a great amp but it was too heavy and too loud. It needs to be really, really loud to get the best tone out of it. It was easily the loudest 15 watt amp I've ever used. I could drown out a buddy who was using two amps a Dual Rectifier and a 5150. It takes a while to figure out the tone controls. They are very interactive. You have to make very small adjustments until you find the tone you are looking for. Also you can't switch between the top boost and normal channels without hooking up an A/B switch. It runs very hot. You could boil water on the top vent. I loved the tone but not the amp if that makes any sense.

I have an AC15C1 and agree with what Kerry Brown says. They really are loud amps. Not really clean and loud, but their best sound is when they are loud and being driven hard. My band doesn’t play too loud on stage as we are always miked up. On stage the C1 is VERY directional so if it is not raised up it can be difficult to hear amongst the band noise if you aren’t standing directly in front of it. I’m sure a 2x12 configuration goes some way to dealing with that.
They are really heavy for my old body. The AC10 is a bit lighter so I hear. So if weight is a consideration then that might be a better option.
Some will say these amps aren’t a TRUE Vox sound, not like the old ones. I couldn’t tell you for sure. I know that when I play Beatles songs through it it sounds close enough for me and when I play other songs I like what I hear.
If it’s the sound you want, for an affordable price then I reckon it’s a no brainer.

hey great feedback..i am finewith the weight if its about the tone. Really looking into can the 10 with the 10" deliver what i can get out of the 15 or 30. I play at kick level 90% of the time..so sweet spot loud is def OK.I could use a AC10 & power other greenbacks if needed. Thanks..i did carch on ..for leads..i favor the closed back..it pushed thru & on top..like a marshall but in its Vox way..very cool this vox thing..I think Tom Petty when i hear it

I had an AC15C1 for a couple of years. I just never bonded with it. But, it was me...because when I sold it the guy who bought it played it when he came by to purchase.
It sounded so good when he played I almost regretted the sale. But as I said it wasn't for me. I just don't use that quick break up sound and it broke up fast!

I have the AC15CH and V212C cab

A really great amp with built in attuenetor, 0,15w / 1,5w / 15w

When i have used the AC15 on gigs i just take the head, most places we play on has cabs we can borrow.

But in my ears the AC15 sound the best with Greenbacks

I'm not sure how VOX can call the China made AC-15 a AC-15 the real VOX AC-10 & AC-15 used a EF86 for the preamp

That said my AC-15 meets Steel String Singer amp is my most played amp I own and it is loud EF86 and Radio Spares transformers.

The China AC-10 my friend Scott has is complete garbage it died in one hour of use

The real VOX AC-10 used two 10" silver back speakers I have only played one in my life they are rare and open back.

VOX made in England made a RI of the AC-15 EF86 heritage

The EF86 has a gain factor of 180 a 12AX7 has a gain factor of 100

The new ones definitely don't sound like the vintage ones, that is for certain. They sound good, but different. My beef when I looked at an AC-10 was the build quality - the cabinet would embarrass a $100 practice amp, and the way the chassis is mounted you are begging for tube failure. I liked the sound of it, but it felt like a POS, and I would have gladly paid more for a better build.

My DST30 has the EF86 pre-amp tube in the normal channel. I also have a couple of early '60s Goodmans Audiom 60 guitar speakers in it. It sounds amazing. Instant Rory Gallagher and Hank Marvin tones.
