Anybody Used One of These? Have We Discussed These Before? String Butler

o_O
Never seen one of those....Kewl lil gadget...
Wonder if it puts any stress on the tuning pegs or the headstock?

I surely would think this gadget will be fine, but I have NO IDEA of stress points on headstocks...

Before I tried one, I would need to know if it puts any stress on the upper headstock..
Like I said earlier, I am not a person that knows anything that would pose a danger to what guitars I have..

Still its a kewl gizmo..

Yes, we have discussed the String Butler, though it was awhile ago before you joined.

The general consensus was that it's effect was likely to be minimal.

I've never bought that, but I did buy this quite a few years ago:

Truss Rod String Roller.JPG

This was made by Wilkinson, and screws down in place of the truss rod cover. It is supposed to serve the same purpose as the String Butler, though the String Butler appears to mount more securely than this product.

Did it work?

You'll notice it is no longer on my guitar.

Seems to me the tension on the tuners should be the same, just pulling in a slightly different direction. Asymmetrical stresses would be handled by the base plate of the StringButler, though it's possible the two tuners nearest the nut could carry a little more of the load. I'd say there should be no worries unless the headstock has a hidden weak spot - in which case it might eventually have failed anyway.

Having the strings all straight across the nut is a good idea. Still, I haven't had any real tuning problems on Gibsons as long as the nuts are slotted well. Imports like Chibsons with a poorly-cut original nut might be likely candidates. But buying the gadget might cost as much as having a proper nut done by a good luthier.

Not sure how much this gadget would change the feel 'cause I haven't ever used one.
