Glossing a satin finish

Many people have used several methods to bring out a shine on the satin finished Gibbo's.
I recently acquired one of these and after my usual pickup routing shenanigans, I polished the satin finish to bring out a nice sheen.

But it wasn't enough.
Sure it looked OK, but I wanted shiny. Real shiny, like looking in a mirror shiny.
I wanted that grain buried.

Well as luck would have it we finally got some intermittent sunshine here in the swamp and I was able to strip, prep & give this thing a proper gloss overspray.
And it has picked up a bit of a sheen, I'd say.

Oh yes, it's sick & slick.
Many coats of clear lacquer with a 400 grit wetsand between em.
Then wetsanded up to 5000 grit & polished from there.

Yes, that's Adrians awesome shielding job. Saw no reason not to leave it as is.

I'm pleased with the outcome.

that is chubbie material there now.

SO nice! Now that is how its done! So what lacquer did you use?
Ray, this was Deft.
The hardware store was out of the generic Ace brand that I've had good luck with in the past.
I've used Krylon before with dismal results, so that was a no go.
I hope it wasn't a mistake. Haven't used it on a guitar before.
Seems awfully soft. We'll see. Nothing I can do about it now but hope for the best.

Wow, that looks fantastic Mr Hackmaster, very well done indeed. I have a satin "cherry" SG that I've often thought about doing the same on. That right there might just provide the inspiration I need to finally get to it. Congrats on such a great job. Cheers
