I was idly browsing the Elderly Instruments web site this morning and found something
I'd never heard of. Here's a quote from the Elderly sales guys:

"For those who seek adventure, interesting instrument built in Maryland, oil finish, ambrosia maple top on single cutaway sassafrass body, maple neck with ambrosia maple headstock, padauk fretboard, 24 frets, 2 P-90 pickups, controls mounted on Douglas fir over ambrosia maple control plate, TonePros AVT-2 wrapover tailpiece / bridge, Hipshot locking tuners, 1-11/16" nut, 24-3/4" scale, Gator hard foam case. $1585"

here's the link:

To me this looks totally lovely and desirable. It looks cool and understated from a distance, but
then the closer you walk, the cooler it looks. If I were a young buck, I'd like to talk with the kind of
woman that would find this attractive. ...but I ain't. *sigh

But this looks like a fine example of the wood crafter's art, as well as the luthier's art.
Never heard of the maker before, but I don't know everything. I used to seek adventure more
than I do now. *grins ...And this seems like just the axe to go Viking with.

Definitely not my cuppa guava looks-wise, but if it sounds and plays good that's all that counts. Right?

Now that's what you call a woody guitar. Even a wood PG/control plate! I think those are wooden dowels holding ther neck onto the body instead of using the usual wood screws. I was thinking of doing that to one of my guitars some time back and there is company that actually does that. That's one unique looking guitar.

A work of art that actually looks like it's very playable. Upper fret access looks great.

I like it. I have never seen recessed tuning posts before and frankly, I do not get it. Also, the plugged neck bolt or dowel bugs me greatly and is a deal breaker (nice eye Johnny). But not for that, I may have wondered "how much"

A "permanent" bolt-on neck?

The necks are glued and screwed. Here's a recent magazine review with some good info on Pete Malinowski's madness:

I don't understand this. Why would something like that be a deal breaker? Is it aesthetics or something else? I have to assume if the screws are covered with dowels there is a reason why. If the neck was removable the dowels wouldn't be there. There are quite a few guitars from the 70's and 80's with glued in necks that are also held with screws, although usually the screws would be in the neck pickup cavity.

You make a fine point. Idiosyncrasy I guess. Either glue it or screw it. If you are going to use screws, let me have at 'em if need be. I guess I just need to consider it a set neck and be done with it. I will meditate on this and get back to you!!
