If you like pets...

Did you ever have the Western Diamondbacks?

Those are some gorgeous creatures.

I suppose I should qualify my earlier post.

If I weren’t married with a family...there is a possibility I’d keep a hot snake...possibly some form of rattley snake!

This is my Northern Pacific on one of his many excursions out into the country. He enjoyed going out and about...

Did he come back on his own?

Generally, yes. Once in a while I would have to look for him...he would also come when called, although many dispelled this saying snakes cannot hear. However, there is a video on You Tube of a Rattlesnake at a Texas facility where the snake comes when called. I am not sure what they hear, but he could hear enough to come when called.

I love pets, but I can't handle all the pet hair and such. My Persian never really shed fine single hairs, it just came of in clumps and I brushed her every day.
My Yorkie was a non shed pet as well, just a haircut every couple months...

We were more of a caged animal house. We had frogs, lizards, a snake, some birds, turtles and a huge fish tank. My Chameleon was a great escape artist
and always scared the crap out of my wife. He would escape and blend in somewhere then reach out and touch here when she walked by...she called
me home from work on many occasions to capture him...

All gone now that there are no kids...

That used to be a common belief, based on the fact that snakes have no external ear or eardrum. But, we’re learning more about snakes and hearing.

Here’s an interesting article about the topic:

Here’s the last paragraph from the article:

“Since we know that the peak sensitivity of a snake's hearing is in the 200-300 Hz range and the average human voice is at about 250 Hz we can determine that a pet snake can, in fact, hear you talking to them. This supports what many snake owners claim—that pet snakes can recognize their names being called.”

If this is true, it’s possible your rattlesnake really did respond to your call!

Keep in mind, I found him when he was the size of a nightcrawler, so we spent the better part of 15 years together.

Bull Snakes are another interesting reptile.

I'm a neat freak and the dog hair from our daughter's German Shepard - even though it lives in our garage - inside the house is unreal. I vacuum twice a day!!!!
