What Are Friends For??? - The Unintentional Creation of the'59 Gibson Les Paul Stage Guitar:

Ok, so after trying several sets of vintage tuners, with varying degrees of disappointment, I still did not have what I considered to be adequate tuning post length through the bushing.

I threw the gold Grover keystones on tonight....

They dont have the vintage look of a press in bushing and green keys, but they fit a lot better....

Maybe pick up some nickel ones later on...

They look cool. And the guitar has a lot of things that are non vintage spec, so not really out of place.

Played it unplugged tonight (no harness yet -still waiting on pots) and it's very loud acoustically. No doubt Kevin Paul's aluminum tailpiece helps...

Guitar was super easy to setup...

Might have to throw a "junk" harness together for now just to get it playable.

I also ordered up a set of nickel Grover-style keystones just to have on hand and a small pin roller bridge from Philadelphia Luthier tools.

The waiting is the hardest part...

So, here's a couple of pics from this morning...

This guitar has more consistent intonation than my 2016 Gibson Les Paul...

A TTR pal asked me why I didn't put genuine Gibson pickups in it, instead of Epiphone H8BN/HB6N's.

I said, "Because they sonically match the 498T/496R..."

Sure, I could've used Gibson's....I have a few laying around...:-)

Notice how the strings on this Asian made Lester line up perfect on the fretboard from the nut to the bridge. Perfect. Not all high dollar guitars can claim this. Fender Strats seem to be notorious for for the strings favoring the lower part of the fret board. Im OCD about this kind of stuff and its one of the things i always look at on guitars. Guess i shouldnt just rag on Fender alot of makers seem to miss the mark alot with the string alignment on the fret board. My 2 MIM Fenders the strings line up right on fretboard so its not all. Was just impressed with the string alignment on this Asian built guitar.

My new 500k, long shaft, audio taper pots wont be here until Monday, so I dug through my shoebox of junk and found some Alpha 500k pots, a quick connect switch and input jack from a Gibson Firebird and some new poly film .018uf capacitors that will work as a temporary solution so the guitar can at least be played on Saturday.

Good eye, Johnny Goo....and exactly why this caught my eye...

Road Test...Wow...my best sounding Les Paul and what a collection of pure junk parts that were used!!!!!

My non-musical wife can pick out the Honeyburst from behind closed french doors everytime.

I'm blown away by this guitar...totally silent, incredible tone, sensitive controls...and many parts from Kevin Paul's guitars.

Here are the pics from the completed "Project 59."
