Furnace issue

So im going down the basement to work in my shop, and notice a strong smell. The oil co had come on Monday to PM my furnace, so I thought it was burning off something he did.

I go to the furnace and there is a pool of fuel in front of it. Wtf....Now I realize how strong the smell is. So now I have to wait around all day for these people? I think the guy tripped on the fuel line and punctured it. Are they going to charge me? For their mistake? Emergency call? On a weekend?

Im preparing for battle! This sucks. Urrrrggggg

Don't panic, yet.

I have an oil furnace, too. Aside from the electronic controls on the newer ones, they are pretty simple.

If yours was just PM'd I'm guessing the issue is pretty simple, as well. I would imagine the tech replaced your filter and, maybe, the strainer. I replace those on mine when I service my furnace. But, the strainers usually don't need to be replaced at every PM.

Replacing these can involve loosening some lines and removing covers. My guess is that something just didn't get tightened up correctly. It could be a fuel line didn't get tightened properly, the filter housing wasn't fastened tightly enough, or maybe the strainer housing wasn't screwed back on tightly. There are also gaskets in the strainer housing and the filter housing. If the tech overlooked replacing either of those, a leak could develop.

Yea, im guessing he kicked the intake line. There is a decent amount of fuel oil surrounding it.

This isn't like cleaning up water either..I can't work down there, as the fumes are over powering. I touched the pool with my finger so I could smell it and make sure it's not water from the storm we had. I can't get the smell off my finger.

Yea, things could be worse, my furnace is working well, and got a good rating after the PM. Looks to be an easy fix too.......But this sure sucks.

I'll know in an hour. Talked to the tech, who was more than nice. He's on his way to solve this mystery.

And they would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for this meddling kid!

So I need to give two thumbs up to Wilcox oil for their customer svc.
I Place call, tech arrives on scene, diagnoses, preps cleanup, schedules fix within an HOUR....on a Saturday!! And I live off the beaten path...in the woods. Wow!

So, most likely scenario, the pm on Monday did a pressure test on the line. Probably blew out a pin hole. The guy today put down some SpeedyDry, and is going to come back and clean it after it absorbs.

Then Monday, they will replace the line. N/C!

Now, that's customer service! And Im a new customer.

That explanation makes sense.

The fuel oil companies often take line leaks pretty seriously, so it's cool that they'll fix it.

That's great that it worked out for you!

actually, I feel bad. The poor guy left his work gloves behind. I'll have to find the office and drop them off. You need your tools to do a job...ya just need 'em.

So yeah Bocco we know how some these idiots can be.

Holy crap Frank...makes my issue look like a walk in the park. I've lucked out with most contract type work. I do most work myself, just so I don't have to deal with someone else incompetence at an inflated rate.

I did the roof myself on my previous house, saved a bundle. Now, I need roof work on this house, and it's just to steep for my arse...I just can't get myself to pay someone to do it. But, my wife is about done with that, so the hammer is gonna drop soon.
