Von Herndon Scratchbuilt Double Neck - Codenamed "The Beast"

Doubleneck New Pickups - Small.jpg

11.5 lb Custom double neck (all mahogany with one piece necks by B.Hefner) with my stage name on the headstocks and birthdate serial numbers...24.75" scale, Ebony Boards, Pearl TRC's and inlays (no.plastic) custom Von Herndon 9.45k "Motherbucker" in the six-string bridge, Duncan 59 neck pickup, cloth 50's style harnesses, 1meg tone pot/500k volume pot shared on six-string side with a 0.01uf K40Y tone capacitor, roller bridge....On the 12 string side is a pair of Thro-Bak SLE-101's, shared 500k volume and tone with a .033uf K40Y tone capacitor and a Gotoh ABR-1 bridge. Necks are wired separately so two amps are required for live use along with a "Smitty-Built" switching box.

Used only on three songs - Stairway to Heaven, Hotel California and Tesla's Love Song...

I have three Les Paul's which are rotated every 3rd or 4th song. Exact same setup, action height and tone.

Gibson Les Paul Number 1 - Codenamed 'Goldy'

20190323_152400.jpg

A 'real' 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute (50's neck) with 498T/496R (14k x 8.5k) fully copper shielded with stock Gibson PCB, Aluminum Tailpiece, Nashville Bridge, custom level and crown and my custom, home-applied Aztec Gold finish and weighs in at 6.5 lbs.

This is the first guitar in each performance.

Gibson Les Paul Custom Replica "Number 2" - Codenamed "Blackie"

20190519_222734.jpg

Built under the guidance and assistance of a SoCal Luthier friend from B.Hefner parts, this features 100% mahogany construction with maple caps, rosewood board, custom headstock veneer with small "Epiphone" styled diamond, roller bridge, aluminum tailpiece, Epiphone HB8N/HB6N (clones of 498T/496R) full copper shielding, 475k pots, and 0.01uf tone capacitors. The neck is between 50's and 60's profiles, with big frets, and hand leveled and crowned by me. The heaviest of all my guitars at 8.0 lbs.

This is the guitar everyone asks to play.
@mitch pearrow has played it...and he was impressed.

Gibson 1959 Les Paul Replica "Number 3" - Codenamed "Honey"

20190626_084447.jpg

This was an attractive piece of wood that caught my eye about a year ago when Adrian first picked it up from a Chinese supplier for $170.00USD. This was the perfect way to have a 1959 Les Paul up onstage without the six-figure pricetag.

The basic build quality and figuring is simply stunning. Mahogany body with maple cap, mahogany neck - true one piece construction, MOP "Gibson" inlay, full copper shielding, 475k pots, 0.01uf tone capacitors, polyurethane jacket custom 50's style wire harness, Epiphone HB8N/HB6N pickups, small-pin, ABR-1 bridge, aluminum tailpiece and aged Gotoh vintage tuners and Kluson bushings. Custom level and crown by me and weighs 7.6lbs.

All guitars have a 12" radius with .010" to .015" relief, all are strung with Ernie Ball .009" x .046" strings with .070" action height at the 12th and all use Dunlop Dual Design Straplocks.

All of Roberts instruments are stellar, (have not touched honey) but knowing my buddy Rob it’s going to be on par with the other’s.
Cheers Mitch

Some of mine with some of the amps when I had them lined up.

These are some of my favorites.I should have taken a couple others out of their cases for this photo.

Great stuff! Love the fawn JMP; friend of mine had one just like it and it was a killer amp. And far right, a vintage 4-holer on a Marshall 8x10? Roger Glover all the way!
Not that I don't dig the basketweave cabs and Hiwatts too - all around, an awesome wall of amps.

Posted my Explorers earlier in the thread; I have a few other korinas too.

You don't see many of these in korina

All korina PRS McCarty with Brazilian board. This was a limited run in '07, made with 50-year-old Brazilian that CF Martin gifted to Paul because the pieces were too small to make sides & backs for their acoustics. This batch of guitars languished unsold for years because of legal hassles over the old growth wood. Finally sold as NOS in '015, marked "for US only." I love the cherry red - in the right light it's downright luminous.

Probably my prettiest guitar of all, this McNaught has a nice quilt maple top and the back & neck are black korina. Fabulously responsive guitar with David's deep-set neck tenon that goes almost all the way to the bridge underneath the maple slab. Sounds great with factory RioGrande humbuckers.

Then there's this strange bird. Some find them ugly; I love the look. Have made some modifications over the years, the long tenon korina neck is a joy though. I like to think the extra mass & length of the Gumby headstocks helps to make these extra lively, but I also think I got a good one.
