On Nov. 1, in parallel to the new executive team's first day on the job, the investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) will assume majority ownership control of Gibson.

its lets be CLEAR---an "INVESTMENT FIRM" owning Gibson.

purchased GIBBO out of bankruptcy basically ( they can polish a turd but lets be honest)

well only that it makes the current events-- threats-- and hyperbole make more sense---

they'll bleed it and toss it aside like half eaten chicken wing-----

HERE is a FUN exercise --- I posted some numbers found earlier that the SAMICK factory in Korea puts out over 1.3 MILLION guitars a YEAR---for over 400 "brands" and 4000 models---
now --- as an exercise can any one find (because I have been looking and REALLY WANT TO KNOW--) ---- HOW MANY GUITARS did GIBSON (not counting EPIPHONE) how many did GIBSON USA produce last year??????

bet its a MEGA CRAP TON less. .........

cant beat em---------sue em!

DONT misunderstand I OWN and LOVE and CHERISH many GIBSONS
--- but I think (much like Harley and LEvi Strauss ---it pains me to say) the company has fallen to a simple logo driven money grab --- like piranha on a cow carcass in a river in Africa ........its getting ugly
 

Go to 3 minute or more specifically 3minutes 10 seconds. I’ve never seen a guitar leave a factory like that at that price.

I used to be all about Gibson’s, always wanted one. To me they were the end all be all of guitars... but an oversight like that?? That just looks like they don’t even test the guitars, more just slap em together, throw it in a box, then distribute em out. I don’t even see Gibson’s at guitar center anymore who used to have a whole top section for them. That spot has been taken over by more Epiphones, at least the ones that I frequent anyways, because they can at least get the bridge right!

That’s just individual taste. I prefer the Les Paul switch position.

It’s not like that’s all I’ve ever known, though. I had an SG for 20+ years before I got a Les Paul, and I got my Strat before a Les Paul, too. So, you’d think I’d have a hard time adjusting from those relative locations.

I quickly came to prefer the LP position; I can’t really explain why. It just seems more intuitive to me.

Yup. Any possible tone considerations aside, nearly anything you can do on a Les Paul can be done with a 335.

I think the main exception would be really high volume work where the semi-hollow body would be more subject to feedback.

I am not surprised. I purchased 4 brand new Gibson's in 2017-2018 and all had issues. I sent 2 back for things like a hump in the neck (2016 Les Paul 50's Tribute) and humming/buzzing electronics (2016 Les Paul Studio T) and I kept the other 2 and invested the $$$" to make them right.

Hoping Gibson can improve their quality control now that Henry J is gone...

I avoided Les Paul's for years. Weight was one big factor. Then, I started playing my 11 pound VH double neck and weight became totally insignificant to me.

Then - for whatever reason - Esge found me a 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute (50's neck profile) demo at Matt's Music...told me I needed a Les Paul and next thing I know, I had closed a deal with them for it.

That guitar became my "Number One" overnight. I got rid of a 2005 Schecter C1 Hellraiser because I couldn't stand how different it felt and sounded compared to a Les Paul. When I try to play my 1987 Fender Squirecaster, I strum it a few times and it goes back in the case. It feels unnatural. Foreign. Clumsy.

Even with Gibson humbuckers, it just doesn't have it. Compare Jake E. Lee's thin, hollow tone to Zakk Wylde's crushing tone. There's no contest here.

I still have the 1987 Squirecaster - which bandmates bought for me in 1988 - but only because of the sentiment.

The aluminum Fender pickguard, cloth harness, CTS 550k pots, orange drops and Gibson 500T/496R pickups - used once for Mojave Wasteland Weekend 2018's outdoor event, are coming out and the vintage DiMarzio stacked singles are going back in.

Now I have nothing but Les Paul's...I even purged the 2016 Gibson SG because it felt strange and uncomfortable to play...much thinner sounding too - even with genuine Gibson pickups - and no amount of EQ could correct it.

Nothing sounds like a Les Paul. Who really knows why??? I've given up on trying to figure out what makes it unique.

When you look at all those pics of artists with a Les Paul. It makes sense...
 
I don’t know why all of my collection is either LP or ones that look just like a LP..
Guess I like the style and the sound that I get from them...All of my Ibby’s are just like a LP and I have one Ibby that is pre lawsuit that I will never rid myself of....
Although I gas for an SG, maybe one day I will aquire just one to satisfy that gas...

Rumor has it there's a Gibson SG in the swamp....
 
There must be more to this story of Gibson's current lawsuit against Dean. Not sure if this is a totally new lawsuit, or a revival of the same lawsuit from about 2 years ago under Henry J's watch.

Bad publicity and reactions are all over the internet right now against Gibson. This is a damn shame.

It’s a continuation of the previous one, following new cease-and-desist letters from Gibson.

Apparently, Gibson pulled down the YouTube video they posted due to extreme negative reaction.
 
Im sure their attorneys had a FIT---- Im betting there was a STFU phone call invlolved ----

but hey its BULLY GUITAR CO Ltd. > :)

I was actuially looking at a Gibson or Epi SG Jr to "round out" my collective of SGness -- in my not too distant future----

Im thinking I will go with a clone-- fake-- off brand-- lawsuit--or homemade kit instead--- "F" Gibson -- they dont need my $ they can just sue everyone else for theirs..
 
I have been so disappointed with the newer Gibson guitars I will never buy one for the rest of my life.
The last one is a DT SG 2015 who ever set that guitar up should be fed to the wood chipper.
The topper was a custom shop RO I had specked to my real 1960 LPS the pickups didn't work
I called Henry and told him who ever built that guitar take a close look at their lips and look for crack pipe burns
Henry hung up on me what a piece of trash. I called my friend JM Rolph had a set of pickups made and rewired the
guitar sounded great surprise they got the neck profile correct. A few weeks later Tom Murphy called me he built the husk
but did not wire the guitar. Brazilian rosewood finger board flitch mach top 8.25 pounds.
A friend got a true historic 1959 LPS $14k sounds OK but nothing to write home about. 9 pounds.
