The AlNico 8 SwampBucker:

plays fine here---- you got one of Dem APPLE things Trident?
phone or desktop?
Ipad maybe?
smoke signals and rabbit ears?
did you duct tape the cable together again? damn gators chew through it for fun ya know-----

So, I'm gonna work up something special for Adrian. I recently sent him a modified (long out of production GFS double slug) with an AlNico 2 slab magnet, with vintage wiring, but coming in at a whopping 15.8k...not to mention reversed magnetic polarity for OOP in the middle position.

So now, I'm putting together another little OOP humbucker for our esteemed colleague.

I'm gonna use a very old (Bill Lawrence wrote of this method often) trick and over wind one coil to make them unbalanced for broader frequency response, even use two different wire gauges in the two coils. Then, I'm going to use an AlNico VIII (8) magnet (which is the highest strength in the Alnico family) as an experiment.

Alnico 8 will always have a larger magnetic field compared to Alnico 2, 3 or 5. Larger, but not necessarily stronger, so my thoughts are a larger field will make the pickup more responsive to pick attack (like hyper-sensitive) but, more importantly, the larger field will have more influence over the neck pickup when in OOP mode, making the effect more dramatic.

But...the idea here is to create a pickup that still produces sweet tones when played by itself, so something beyond the usual one-trick pony approach, something that will clean up dramatically when the volume is rolled off with very articulate definition and character.

So, I am gleaning only the very best parts from my stock of pickups and parts for this little project.

And so, the SwampBucker is born!!!

The first prototype actually made it all the way to the swamp. This "Swampbucker" is actually in one of Mitch's guitars now...

Decided to go AlNico IV in the SwampBucker to sweeten it just a bit and round-off the low and high ends of the spectrum just a bit...

I hope I don’t screw up but I am having custom Seymour Duncan made.
Mission : Schenker tone
Alnico 4 magnets but I didn’t spec different windings . I hope they create something and not just over wind a sethlover.

I do hope it is up to your expectations, if not , PM Robert, he does outstanding work!
I poop you not brother!
Cheers Mitch

I hope so to , they have a reputation. I had thought about maybe talking to Robert about my dilemma but I kind of hope that since Seymour was around back in the day and knows lots of the Musicians he will find what I am looking for. He seems like he would be more approachable than Dimarzio besides he is west coast !
