Ninjaking67's NGD

Seems I have sorted out my technical difficulties.
Those of you who are familiar with the real deal Gibson will notice that the back colour of this Epi is brown and not the faded reddish brown of the original. You will also notice that the tuners are Grovers and not the deluxe-style of the original. Also, the translucent amber of this Epi is not quite as dark as the Appetite amber of the Gibby. I am more than willing to live with all of these inconsistencies as it will be close enough for the riff raff I hangout with!

I will be installing a set of Seymour Duncan Slash Alnico II Pro reverse zebra pickups. I have them in another LP and they sound absolutely great. The stock p'ups in this guitar actually sound really good and they will likely find themselves in another project.

The knobs will be replaced with gold reflectors and pointers.

All in all it should be a reasonable approximation of the real deal.

The back has a thin mahogany veneer as close inspection shows that the body is made of no less than 5 pieces!

i got to see the original Guns and Roses line up at a concert in Tacoma Washington at the Tacoma Dome.it was there concert right after the St Lious Riots where people tore the shite out of that concert venue.needless to say security was heavy.it was a great concert and one of my favorite bands.only thing pissed me off was Slash was wearing a black cowboy hat enstead of the tophat lol.in there prime Guns and Roses kicked some royal Rock ass.even with Axle Rose

Here is a pic of the Gibson. Sorry it is so small. I will update if I find a better image.

Very cool. I was really blown away by Appetite for Destruction when it came out. I had heard Welcome to the Jungle but this hot chickie I was dating at the time had the cassette in her car and turned me on to it.

I married her.
Will be 25 years in October.

Congrats on the upcoming 25th Anniversary, jtcnl.

Previous post is a gut shot showing the mediocre Chinese wiring of this guitar. Of interest is the plug in connector that goes out to the 3-way switch and the giant wiring route to accommodate it.

All the pots seem to work adequately at this point so I can't decide whether to perform a complete electronics transplant when the new p'ups arrive or to leave as is for now. I am leaning toward leaving it.

If this was my guitar and it's going to be a keeper, and even despite that the electronics are working well, I would go for it and replace everything in the electronics department.

You're probably right on the money with that way of thinking syscokid!
I will probably end up doing a complete strip of all the electronics. I have been doing some research on the most economical source for the required parts keeping in mind that we citizens of the Great White North usually get boned when shipping stuff from the US of A. "Free shipping on orders over $xxxxx" NEVER applies to stuff going to Canada!

Here is what I found when I gutted the beast!

No wonder it sounded pretty good! These are keepers for sure! They will probably end up in another project.
