Tonight's band practice take aways

Had our biweekly band practice tonight.

The top two takeaways for me...

1) the Boss Blues driver is my new #1 pedal. It's everything and more. It's what I've been looking for, and didn't realize it.

2) We absolutely rocked AC/DC Girls Got a Rhythm. It will probably be the only song we do by them,. Bon Scott is my favorite singer, but I didn't realize how much it takes to sing that song. Our singer really had to putt it all out there, and he did it justice. We can only practice that song three times a session...lol.

Some other notes,

- I can remove the Boss SD1, and the Boss DS1 from my board. I will add a tuner and delay in their place. nice and simple....for now.

- the rhythm guitarist needs an intervention on how to use the volume knob on his guitar. Really?!!
Wow, is that how I used to be.??

- The Tubes, talk to you later. Gezzz, we need to scrap that song IMO. WTF

- I need to invest in hearing protection. Seriously.

- we're adding our first Judas Priest song, Diamonds and Rust!! I'm excited. Also adding train train by blackfoot. Pumped.

Love it! Rock on peeps!!!!!! :dood::dood::dood:

Good to see you thinking of this. Time comes in to play with exposure. Find a defensive spot in the room if possible. I have no idea how I’ve successfully kept as much as I have over the years, other than what I’ve just outlined. Listen to your body. If you’re uncomfortable, make yourself comfortable.

Yea, a defensive spot is rite. I usually stand to the side, but the rhythm guitar was cranking so I moved to hear myself. It was the PA that did me in....those highs are like daggers in my ear drum. Putting an end to that.

Good to see so many Priest songs. You should add the Sentinel, lol. Awesome song.
We will probably only do one or two. The singer and I waited six months to spring this on the boys.

Priest, check.
AC/DC, check.
Iron Maiden....???

The last time I played with a band I invested in hearing protection for the drums alone. I usually found myself next to them and good god they would give me a headache three songs in.

Fortunately for me, our drummer isn't defining. I consider him a heavy hitter too, but for some reason, the drums are the least offensive to my ears. Either way, I need help and protection.

In our last band, AC/DC was frowned upon. The bassist didn't dig them....so we did tons of Led Zeppelin....which was really cool to me.

There was also an unwillingness to do drop tuned Eb songs.

I've always preferred Eb and rather than change guitars for certain songs, I prefer to just tune to Eb and stay there. On long nights, it really helps the vocalist.

We got tapped one night to cover three different bands that cancelled at three different Palm Springs casinos. That worked out to be 6 hours (3 two hour Performances with 15 minutes off on the hour) and our singer would have never been able to pull it off tuned to standard.

I'm the logistics guy. I'm thinking about cable length, equipment weight, drummer longevity, singer's vocal endurance and all that sort of thing...

That's the first ACDC song I've done in a band, I noticed the bass rite away. It just drives. It's awesome. Different than anything else we do. My brother is the bass player , we talked about it on the way home. He's in four bands, this is the only band thats Hard Rock/ heavy. The things he does for his kid brother.....I've infected him with metal. no use resisting!! :):):dood::dood::):).

I could see the Eb benefiting the singer. But, I don't see us doing anything but std tuning for a while.

6 hour jamming!!! You better use the SG on the final set. That LP will make you two inches shorter by the end of just four hours.....even with weight relief.
