Headphones

I have a set of Sylvania headphones that are not expensive. Have had them for quite some time now. With my Orange 35RT Crush amp which has Aux in for backing tracks, and the cab sim-loaded headphone output, I thought I would give it a try. I have to tell you I was impressed with the quality of sound that came through those cheap headphones, I can only assume with a quality set the sound would be even much better. Kudos to Orange for putting this feature into this amp . Its a nice bonus.

That’s the major reason I bought the same amp, so I could play when the wife was home, through headphones.

When I was in the market for a new amp I was considering this one. That purchase is on hold for awhile but someday I may just buy one.

The two headphones which never let me down so far are the AKG K88s ( I wore out the band part that went on my head but the phones themselves were still working excellent ). I've also had great luck with my Marshall ( I believe the model is studio? ). Unlike Gibson getting weird by trying to go "electronic bit", Marshall amps hit it out of the park with these. They are only 99 db but, I've had 100+ db headphones which were no match with these. Unfortunately I don't know if these are available anymore. I have not tried out new Marshall headphones. I like that you can change the cord to left or right side. The cord is a short curly perfect for not getting tangled with guitar, midi, mic, etc cables and such. Honorable mention, back in the 80s when I was a college radio announcer at a jazz station, I used these cheap looking white plastic bodied Senheisers with small orange foam ear pads, these were the best to my ears I have ever used. Back then they went for around $100.

I need to get myself some long-wire over-ear headphones for late night practice. All my headphones are in-ear short-wired for flying/travelling, so don't really do the job. I'll look at your suggestions above.

I use Sennheiser HD 280's for recording. They seem to have a nice, flat response and are not too expensive.

For listening I have a pair of Shinola over-ears. They were expensive but worth every penny. Not as neutral sounding as the Sennheisers (which is fine for just listening) so I don't use them to record.

I work about a mile from Disneyland. I used to be able to see the Matterhorn from my office but I moved from a west facing office to a south facing one.
