Paging gball. Need a Mesa Opinion

or it could be a BOOOOOGIE thread :)

Yup...as I’ll be saving up the dough...and hoping taxes don’t take it from me over the next year or so...(I’m not bitter...really I’m not...)...I really want to be sure I buy a quality amp.

I’m done with gimmick amps. I don’t need over-the-top wattage, as everything I do is mic’ed to the PA. In fact, lower wattage actually works best. But, I want a serious, professional amp, if such a thing can be found at lower wattage ranges.

I’ll probably sell my Class 5 and modified AC4TV to help fund the effort.

So, at the risk of exposing my ignorance...do you know of a good example of the signature Mesa sound?

A YouTube video...a sound clip...?

I’m really intrigued. I want my next amp to be A serious amp...not a gimmick, and everything you’ve said about Mesas is pretty compelling.

Adrian nailed it. Just listen to any Dream Theater record - Petrucci is the Mesa poster boy

Maybe my favorite of their albums:

My Mesa is my second oldest amp(possession time...I have collected some older, but more recently).
It is going nowhere.(much like my Laney that I’ve had for~ 30 years)
Unless....maybe....I pick up a Mark V variant at some point.
After watching the Petrucci video that Adrian posted, and a couple of other Mark 5:25, and 35 videos....I’m not nearly as skeptical of the EL84 Mesa amps(in comparison to say....6L6/EL34 Mesas).
I really dug that Petrucci model a lot.(4x6L6)

not having current credit accountability and tracking can hurt your credit rating long term--- to keep that C.R. in good standing with those that will economically enslave you -- you must carry debt--- now get a damn MESA and charge the thing like a good American!

Mesa really seems like a great amp. Because of our philanthropic efforts of late in Central America, i am intentionally avoiding spending more the $300 on an amp...and I'm not buying brand new anymore, and that puts the Marshall Valvestates right in my sights.

They chug to perfection without pedals, are super reliable and cheap. The Valvestate cleans are renarkable too.

If I were not limiting myself to a specific dollar amount and physical size, I would likely use a triple rectumfrier head and a pair of 4x12 cabinets.

PEAVEY 112 (or 2x12) Bandit mate----- tellin ya-- bullet proof -- cheap--- SOLID excellent tone ----it does chug ---it does clean-- it does country-- it has TRANSTUBE tech

AS MUCH or more chug--- can mimic a plexi and -- can be had for 80-100.00 (at least here in the Swamp)

you owe it to yourself to find and play one BEFORE you make a final purchase---
