Paging gball. Need a Mesa Opinion

A Celestion V30... :dood:

Or...

I have a closed back with the Mesa V-30 and the open back with the C-90. They are both excellent choices. For Metal, the Recto with V-30 is definitely the answer. It's easily the best speaker I have ever used for high-gain (and the Mesa version is not like the regular V-30). The C-90 is a bit more versatile I think. I definitely prefer it for medium/lower gain stuff, and it seems to hold together better when you use temporal effects.

I believe mine has the Celestion V30 :)

man I LOVE my Mesa........................

Not quite but you get the "family" sound if you know what I mean. The onboard EQ really makes them versatile.

That does help.

If I understand from previous discussions, the Rectoverb 25 is a bit more of a generic sounding amplifier. It doesn’t necessarily create “The Mesa Sound”. Is that a correct understanding?

I’m still quite aways from being able to spring for either the Rectoverb 25 head, or the Express head.

But, these two definitely have my attention. Although they feature a lower wattage output, they both seem like serious amplifiers.

I'm not sure I would call the Rectos generic. They are, for all intents and purposes, clones of the Soldano SLO, which is not an amp that I believe anyone would refer to as generic. They sound incredible but no, I wouldn't say they have the Mesa family sound baked in the way many of the other models do. Using the gain and mid control you can get there but it's not as immediately right in your face the way a lot of them are. And I know that the signature Mesa sound isn't for everyone, but if you're like me and it's your thing then nothing else will do. I recently bought a Marshall Silber Jub and sent it right back. It was cool but I knew the moment I fired it up that it wouldn't get much play time, the midrange just didn't have that 3-D quality that Mesas do.

So, at the risk of exposing my ignorance...do you know of a good example of the signature Mesa sound?

A YouTube video...a sound clip...?

I’m really intrigued. I want my next amp to be A serious amp...not a gimmick, and everything you’ve said about Mesas is pretty compelling.

I have the Lone Star 19 for my Mini Rec and it is a totally awesome sounding speaker box.
