I don't think I see these as either/or alternatives. I can think of plenty of reasons to keep a pedal board alongside a modelling amp.

Yes, that's very true - I suppose my Yamaha THR10 is one of the first modelling amps, so we can compare all three - many many posters on here must have experience of all 3. I might try my pedals into the Yamaha.
