Peavey 6534+ going in for another retube

Yeah, same cab
This is got me thinking again... :hmmm::
I have three 50-watt amps. I'm thinking it would be interesting to connect each amp to the same speaker cab one at a time, and test for maximum volume for each amp.

Set the treble, mid, and bass controls to flat. Set the master volume to maximum. Then gradually turn up the regular volume/gain control and note where the amps start to break up, and where they achieve max volume. I have an old Radio Shack sound level meter that'll come in handy... and earplugs, too!

You can switch two amps one or two with this Headbone VT - Radial Engineering

What I did before I went Dumble crazy was a Trainwreck Express and a Trainwreck Rocket Marshall Stereo 4 x 12 cabinet running 2 x 12 each head
and switch the two amps and two airbrakes to lower the output I used that rig for 10-12 years

Dave, have the guy servicing your amp do a close inspection of the boards they are prone to cracks and weak solder joints.

As far as EL34's new production the JJ KT77 sounds OK but I can't say anything on longevity.

Yes I have had some issues with bad solder before that Frank has fixed as he has worked on different boards in the amp. They used lead-free solder in the last US-made Peaveys and it tends to age badly and crack. I did look at the JJ 6CA7 and KT77 tubes (I've heard that their EL34 and EL34L tubes are bad) but settled on the EL34B-STR, and went for TAD over Ruby.

That's a shame, about the time, but if it comes back in perfect order then it'll be worth it.

I'm sure if you're playing on 3 then that's damn loud, probably louder than I've ever played on anything (in fact, almost certainly so). It's just that these big valve amps kinda have the image of being on 11.

I should have it back tomorrow

Josh got his back and I think he's spent quite a bit less (we'll find out tomorrow but I doubt the bill will be $30, and I've already spent $200 on the tubes) but I made sure I got exactly the tubes I wanted, so I paid a bit more. Hopefully I have good luck with these.

Picked the amp up tonight, will have a listen tomorrow! All up with the new tubes, new caps in the bias circuit, diagnosis, burn-in, and bias it cost $420 :(

Ha ha 420 doesn't mean much in Australia, except maybe to neo-nazis, as it is Hitler's birthday or something.

I've turned the amp around the right way and plugged everything in again now. Will test in the morning, and ruin the Good Friday of any good Christian folk around here with my woo-woo. I'll have to adjust my settings though as Frank has been playing around with them. He's rolled all the highs off on my lead channel. I won't get any good harmonics that way!!
