New guitar build project. So, this is my Warmoth build number 4 (Wrat, Purple Wurl and Black on Wue). It’s actually the first Warmoth body I bought in August last year, but I used the first purple heart neck on the Purple Wurl project. I liked the PH fret board so much I ordered a second custom made one, this time with a mahogany neck wood, to match this body. Given the nice maple Quilting on this one, I named it Purple Wuilt.

I started the assembly a few weeks ago, as I thought I had ALL the parts needed to complete the project. The pup rings took a little time to carefully change the flat bottom to the body contour. I used a Dremel with a sanding drum. As I was about to mount the Lindy Fralin pups, I discovered they shipped them with the wrong thread size. They shipped 3mm metric thread instead of American standard. I almost send them a WTF email (they ain’t cheap), but decided to just get the correct screws myself. Just put the strings (Elixir 10-46) on it yesterday and will be doing the wiring today and tomorrow. The neck feels great and it play acoustically very well.

Nice work!!
How do you position your pick up rings / mounting holes straight / correctly?
I had a hard time with that.

I had a hard time with that.

For the neck pup I use a feeler gauge, using a bunch of the blades to get the desired distance from the neck. I drill one hole with the gauge between the neck and the pup ring. I then screw that one in and move to the other side and repeat using the feeler gauge.

Once that one is square, I use a small metal ruler and position the bridge pickup from one side of the bridge pup. I drill and screw that hole and then move to the other side and use the same distance and drill then screw.

Got the wiring done today. I gotta learn how to record some day as these Lindy Fralin P92s have a great clean sound through the Mesa. Maybe I’ll work on my recording chops next weekend to be able to showcase these pups. Meanwhile, here’s some more shots from today.
