1976 Fender Super Reverb

As dirty, beat up and nasty as it looks..................I really dig the tone of it, even just without pedals. It still holds its own after all the beatings it has had since it first got used. I Would not take this amp to gig but I know someone who had a silverface similar to mine and he did not have casters. He used a piano dolly to bring it to/from his ride. I think he had the 70 watt version because it was far louder than my 45 watter. There is a great deal of tales and mojo this amp has. They could probably make a movie about this amp, and it would receive an Oscar nomination.

Your 45 watter should sound much better than those "ultra-linear" 70 waters... especially when it breaks up!

Congrats on a very cool amp... :cheers:. I hope you get a chance to crank this one up every now and then... :yesway:
 
Sysco I find it very scary that they ask $500 for a excellent condition 1979 Champ, when music stores would have a pallet of them they would blow out for $40 plus tax each back then.
 
It is imperative you get the power filter electrolytic caps replaced.
(all the electrolytics but the power supply caps in particular)
They DO have a shelf life, some say around 15 years max.
When one fails it may take the power transformer with it and other collateral component damage along the way.

Thats what I hear from experienced amp guys anyway; maybe @67plexi will chime in with his expertise.

Add 3 prong grounded power cord and remove death cap if so equipped as well.

It has the 3 prong grounded. I do need to do the cap job. I will have someone else do it for me. I also would like a mod to be able to separately be able to bias the two 6L6s.
 
Are you sure it's a 1976 I have the 70 watt 1976 got it cheap mint used the speakers in my 1960 6G12 Fender Concert some bozo put a 15" JBL in the concert
Paid $200.00 for the Super Reverb and $100.00 for the Concert.

Fender could have done the change from 5U4 to solid state in 1976

No right on the back it says 45 watt . It is to the bottom right on this photo you can see the 45, and the phone speaker plug is covering the "watts."
They did not change to 70 watts until later. My 76 also has a rec tube. I've read tons of misinfo on SRs on the net. The one I got is CBS but does not say CBS Musical on it. Instead it says Fender Musical Instruments on front SF panel side and on the back black panel. The chasis number is A600593.

Ten years ago a bought a '78 Super Reverb (70 watt ultra linear with Master Volume) locally for a great price. It needed some minor work. A couple new power tubes, a power switch, cap job. Three months later I flipped it for a small profit. Very loud amp but fell way short compared to the sweetness of the 45 waters. I didn't like the master volume either. Good riddance!
 
I was wrong looking at the silver face Super Reverb serial number chart #60xxxx is a 1973

A59000 to A66000 - 1973
 
This sticker is still hanging on to the wood somehow!
