I bought something (surprise!!!) but I sold THREE things last week ---and bought 2 -- VOX VT20X (your fault entirely I mean you ALL OF YOU) ---- and this "thing" that will remain nameless for the moment to help build suspense---so dont judge me--

but the question and the MYTH I intend to bust (ive busted it 100 times at least) but Im RECORDING this version here for science!!!--- so to get you all "up to speed"..............

Its on the truck for delivery today !!!! 4/11/19--I can HEAR the SUSTAIN from here--!

QUESTION--- you hoarders gotta have MUCHO EXPERIENCE in this -=--I have heard many rant (mostly on other forums) but here as well about WAITING 24 hours to open the box to allow acclimation......
personally I open the box sometimes IN FRONT OF the delivery guy to make sure there are NO issues---

the box has been in the local (Florida) climate zone 18 hours all ready in transit---its a cardboard box--- that traveled from NY to NJ to SC. To Fl over the span of a week----(gradual automatic acclimation??)its a cardboard box not an air tight lunar capsule---- I fail to believe any NYC air/climate is still trapped within....also even if it was air tight -- the box was packaged in a climate controlled apartment---at a level around 70 degrees-- so when it gets here and is opened in a climate controlled 77 degrees--- does it REALLY MATTER?!?! isnt it essentially the SAME?!?!?

and ---Ive received and shipped MANY MANY guitars with ZERO issues described by those giving reasons to wait before opening (mainly finish cracking and neck warping/bowing)

SO -- vote:
Comment and watch this space for later up dates and possibly a chance to smell the glove-----

I would always wait. The guitar is going to be at different temperature to the room. If the guitar happens to be warmer, no harm in opening straight away, but if it is still cold from a cargo hold in a plane, opening straight away is going to expose it to a lot of unwanted condensation.
And of course, delayed gratification is the best kind. :fingersx:

the guitar has been in the "swamps" over 18 hours at the current point -- and will near 24 hours by the time it reaches my hovel....

If its a Fender it wont hurt it to open right away :) No actually i bought a guitar in the Winter a couple years ago and it was pretty cold out when it came off the truck so i did let it sit in the box for a few hours to warm up. But normally no i just open stuff up.

I will also add--- this is NOT a pristine -- new -- purchase -- its a 37 year old -- beat and battered used/traveled road worn gig beast--- its NOT pristine-- so.,..this may effect your voting --- please vote -- I am curious --Im also killing time till the chiropractor opens at 2 ......

The waiting thing is total B.S., a silly internet myth. Nobody worried about this crap 20 years ago (unless you were dealing with extreme temperatures but you are not).

Do you wait a day to open your case at a gig after its been in the back of a cold trailer all day? No, you pull it out, tune up and go.

its here--- Fedrex LEFT IT on the front stoop at SOME point this morning I found it 45 minutes ago -- its OPENED its been played --- its an Homage to a time gone by ---- to this bunch of idiots

no issues in the openeing --- no problems-- this is a GIGGED -- relic that has its war wounds and battle scars but plays and sounds EXCELLENT---
happy camper!

it was and is a COMPLETELY JUVENILE and frivolous buy on my part --- but --- I mena LOOK AT IT ---- its a foogin RIOT!

originally I said ---- Ill get it and strip it and refinish it -----------but-- the more I thought about it------ the more ------I decided NOPE --- it is as it as and what it is because it is----and that is what makes it special----if it was refinished a lovely blue---- or sage green ------ it wouldnt BE an 83 relic would it---
it wouldnt SCREAM 80's decadence and stupidity --- like it does now-----

nope --- love it as is for what it is ----

Oh yeah, that's sweet brother. I've kind of secretly wanted an Eagle ever since I first saw this in Jr. High:

Good decision. That thing should stay exactly as-is.

well a thorough SCOURING of the web couldnt turn up another one like it------

I know the ORIGINAL has to be out there someplace--- maybe Harry Schearer still has it ??? --- who knows....

I like it though --

I saw and heard an acoustic top crack, snapple, pop in from of me. But, that was winter and it was opened in a warm house after getting cold from travel. I didn't see it personally, but a guy told me he watched his neck warp/twist in front of his eyes. He's the one that first warned me about it back when I was a teenager helping someone out in a music studio type thing. I let stuff acclimate if things feel too different. If something arrives on a real hot day and I'm in the AC (or vice versa) it sits for a while. I'm not in that much of a rush to take a chance - if it's happened to others it can happen to me. If temps are real close, then I don't worry about it.

The Meloday Maker I just got didn't need it as I bought it in Florida and brought it home all in the same evening type thing. The temp outside was pretty much the temp inside, blah blah blah. But, it sat for a very long time not tuned. String tension was all over the place. So, with it, I tuned it a whole step down and let hang for a while, tuned to half step down and let if hang for a while, next step - new strings and setup. Something I learned from a guitar tech a real long time ago - patience and let things breath and settle in. But, that's just me - the way I learned or was taught or what ever - right/wrong/or-in-between...

that Melody maker is a GEM dude we need more pics of it!!!! AND some clips!!!
YUMMY soap bars in that beastie!!!

this and what @DonP says.
I wait when I bring cold things in the house, like tools from a cold garage.
I let them sit cased for as long as is practical to minimize condensation.
Not beer though, that I'll drink straight away.

I live in a swamp--- Im not kidding the PREDICTED humidity was 90% today ---
