Tonewood v Semi-Hollow

I am not a believer in tonewood contributing to a guitar's sound, but rather feel that a guitar gets it's tone from the pickups and everything after the guitar signal is sent out from there. However, I cannot help thinking I hear the influence of semi-hollow guitar construction in tone, despite the fact that it should follow the same principle I mention above.

Anyone care to venture an opinion as to whether there is a difference, or I whether I am just hearing what my mind thinks I should hear when playing a semi-hollow guitar?

I have a semi hollow Blueshawk -- with P90's and a SOLID JR with a p90...............hold on a minute--------------

I heard no hollow, but I made a selection of which was which based on other factors. I will try this tonight too. A solid/semi-hollow shootout!!

But where would the sound you hear in your head have come from if semis didn't have a unique tonality? They definitely sound (and feel) different from solidbodies, and different solidbodies sound and feel different from one another. I don't personally buy into the premise that the wood and construction don't make a difference and I don't think any reputable guitar builder is trying to sell it (correct me if I'm wrong). I've put the same pickups in different guitars and gotten dramatically different sounds out of them through the same rig, so I know it makes a difference but don't know what factors contribute from a physics standpoint.
 
I have a G400 I put 57s in. I have a Hagstrom semi hollow with whatever HBs Hagstrom installed. Here’s a thought to add confusion to this experiment. If the pups aren’t the same, wouldn’t that contribute to a potential difference. Possibly more so than solid body vs hollow.

wouldnt also scale length and or string gauge --style -- (flatw vs rounds) all play into it as well>

From being TOLD it is supposed to sound airy...just like being TOLD maple is bright. Power of suggestion. AND builders tend to select pickups to SUIT a semi-hollow, so that the semi-hollow sound becomes connected with those pickup choices

I agree that pickups make all the difference when considering wood, and I tend to think the same thing with semi-hollowness
 
now to be fair the ---Blueshawk has a different scale and does have the funky wiring w. dummy coil--to make it NOT hum like a P90 guitar......

That has nothing to do with the reasoning behind my speculation. I based it on my ears(which could be sh!t...)

C’mon with the guesses everyone!
 
but I liked the drawing...............

it graphically explains in pseudo crayon a bunch of crap I dont understand...or want to for that matter--but it DID remind me the BH has a P/P tone pot----I always forget that -- never use it-- sorta makes the thing sound like utter shite-- but HEY it HAS ONE
