...I have been getting this noise on my studio monitors. It sounds like interference, but I can't isolate it. I've unplugged damn near everything and turned off the lights in the room and it persists...

I'm posting it and if anyone has a clue please reply!

Do you have a smart meter ?? I was building a guitar amp got the strange sounds out of it. I called a friend masters degree electrical engineering
You have an oscilloscope check your wall voltage spikes across the screen. Then on my Allen & Heath QU-16 got a voltage spike that crashed the system
lucky after I reloaded the firmware it was OK then one of the clubs we play built in the 1880's I got complaints buzzing hiss noise.
So I run everything through a Furman PL-Pluse Classic Series Power Conditioner it was the cheapest that got the job done. Your sound file sounds like a smart meter transmitting

That's a tough one. That sounds like a great place to start. You may not to be able to get rid of all the hum unless you create s Faraday cage: grounded metal screen on the walls, floor and ceiling.

I have an O-Scope and I have an extra Furman Power Conditioner. I'll try that.

Yea, Faraday Cage is not in the plans...:D

It has a bit of mobile phone about it. Any of those nearby? And I'd be interested to know how the background hum on your monitors is at 90Hz, not 60 or 120.

Cell phones are most always in the room within 3 - 6 feet. I'll remove them...

It's very intermittent and there is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens or how long it lasts.

They are dead quiet right now and there are two cell phones in the room within 5 feet.

Are you close to a train track? I had to fault find a studio once, and it turned out that track signalling loops on a nearby line were putting odd noises into the system. The fix was large ferrite clamps on all the mains wiring.

No where near. If there is one it's over 10 miles away. But, ferrite clamps is not a bad idea!

Sounds, like the other Don said, a bit like cell phone data chatter. I wonder if it’s something on your WiFi network (or worse...a neighbor’s).
Just how intermittent is it? Seconds? Minutes?

Completely random. Sometimes all afternoon and sometimes just a few second every few hours...

.......so...have you added any new components to your WiFi network lately?
Any new Bluetooth devices running in the house?

Not that I recall...maybe an Alexa device?
Dunno...maybe try pulling the plug on said Alexa device, and see if the problem disappears.
I would imagine that an Alexa device would try to ”touch base” occasionally via WiFi...even when seemingly dormant. I’m sorry, I’ve not run in to this problem before with anything but cell phones of old. I don’t have one of those devices in my home...we have one at work.
