I love plain old D'Adarrio XL strings , but......

Tonight I had yet another ball end pull out on the high e string; where the string keeps going flat as the wind at the ball end fails.

One or two were on fairly new sets and I had extra high e to replace.
This and another were on sets that had been on a while but were still clean and serviceable with no divots at the frets yet.

Out of maybe 10 or so sets of 10-46 I bought as 3-packs in 2015 maybe, I think this is the 4th one. I had one instance of the stock strings that came on a new guitar so I dont know if I am lumping that one in.

This could be related to that particular lot / production run.
I emailed the company and told them I support the product but just wanted to report my experience.

Have you experienced this with these or other strings?

I also use Martin Darco plain old electrics and are very satisfied with them as well.
They both fit the "cheap but good" place I mostly operate in.
 
I have used Darcos -- and most every otehr brand of cheap string -- and some NOT so cheap--

I have just about settled on these.

2.29 a set-- free shipping come in several gauges---- and frankly -- they just WORK ---
BUT I am NOT hard on strings-- I play with mostly a light touch-- I dont DIVE BOMB and SCREAM on the Whammy etc.
 
I have used those.
They are ok but, a bit stiff- not as stretchy to my feel, but not bad.
I am hard on strings with my ham fisted picking and my playing is blues based and features a lot of big bends and vibrato.
so, the feel of how strings stretch is important to me.
I could use them if I bought a bunch, but for a little more, I like the Dads and the Darcos.
But yeah, I strive for "cheap but good" as you all know.

I am pretty light on the bar as well; mostly a bit of warbles.
But a lot of surf is at least a half step and Chris Issac / John Wilsey Wicked Game involves a bit of bar work that is more than warble vibrato.
 
I’ve always played with Ernie ball and even tried ghs boomers. Never had that issue or if I did it was a rarity, and I bend the HELL out of my strings.

Darcos are good Ive used them a good bit my local Mom n pop carried them in Alabama so I got "hooked" on them

I’ve had precisely that problem, with exactly that brand(and gauge) of strings. I’ll never buy them again. I watched one just unwind from the ball end as I tuned it up on a Stetsbar equipped guitar...came apart like butter as I tried/failed to tune it. It’s basically what happened to 7 of 10 high E strings from that bulk pack.
I’ve since switched back to Dean Markley 10s, and on to some hybrid gauges by Ernie Ball, and GHS Boomers...I liked the Boomers, but not the hybrid gauge, so I just picked up two 6-packs of string sets...all 10s.

I had it happen to me twice in 30 years with Ernie Balls - one 'G' and one High-E - both pulled the ball all the way to the end of the string...
 
THese are ACTUALLY made in the usa-in O-HIGH-Ho....they dont suck-- they are not CHEAP---but they dont suck

Is the Boomer regular 10-46 the GBL 010 model?
String prices have really escalated the last few years.
I was getting the D'Addarios for 3.99, 3 pack worked out to $3.29 I think.

I found 6 packs of these Boomers for $22.49 shipped but they may add tax.

that is where I stocked up on the Martin Darco 9-42 and 10-46

I'm going to try a 6 pack of those.
 
The Gibson Vintage Reissue are really great IMO, but at $9.95 a set too expensive.

I've been using these La Bella The Bender strings lately and I really like them a lot and only $4.95

It would, but I'm not about to accept that task as SOP to work around a manufacturing defect.

However, that is a good idea: the first time it slips I would not be against backing off the tuner to get the ball clear, hold it with locking pliers, and solder it since my bench / station is set up and it would be little time or effort.
I still have several sets from that batch.

Just picked up a pack and the shop I go to gives a free pack with a purchase of a pack. So new strings for the SG & RG going on this weekend. I was going to swap the 11's or 12's on the RR since it came with them and feel really weird to me but I am getting use to them somewhat. Anyway these are my go to.
