Will buy an SG in the near future. It may sound dumb but I'm considering,
Chibson
Epi G-400 Pro
Gibson ???
Almost eliminated the Chibson as cost landed in Australia then upgrades get it too close to the Epi.
The Epi is looking like the option just now.
Gibson hmmm not many around town to hold / test.
I'll work it out BUT this Gibson is being pushed by my local shop, I dislike the look and therefore haven't even plugged it in. Refereed to as "worn brown", I'd call it "kicked about the floor brown" :-(
Anybody like this "worn brown"?

Honestly, I'm not a fan of worn finishes although worn brown and worn cherry seem to be very popular SG finishes.
As far as colors go on a SG, I like ebony, white, pelham blue and dark cherry.

If I go G-400 Pro I'm a thinking "Ebony", no white available at this time.
Just a matter of finding what is about in the Gibson range and doing a cost V value comparison.

I am not a fan of the unfilled grain, but I have shined a worn/satin finish into something that made me very happy. Also, this is a G400. I have G400 and the pro. I prefer the standard G400 as the pro neck profile is rather chunky. I am not sure if it is the model or the year that accounts for this difference, but I would look into it.

You can't go wrong with a black SG! You should be able to find a black Gibson or black Epiphone fairly easy.

That's real nice but the worn brown in my first photo wouldn't turn into anything as good as yours with elbow-grease alone would require a spray gun.

I'll get one but our low population means they can't be found "fairly easy".
It may take a trip to Sydney (I hate Sydney, they have high buildings and lots of cars on the road).

Hi gasket, this is my 60's tribute (2013 model)WP_20160731_004.jpg if you can find something like this you should be able to get at a reasonable price, they were a kinda budget model but great guitars. The finish isn't "worn" but its not gloss either. I think they called it a satin finish. They are like the working mans SG, no neck binding etc, kinda a stripped down version. Mine has the 60's thin neck profile, 24 frets & came with burstbucker 1 & 2 pickups. Look for one of the tribute series (60's or 70's) from 2011 to 2014. Cant understand you not liking Syndey, so many opportunities to be lead astray there. Hope this helps. Cheers

I have a 2011 SG Special Faded in worn brown.
To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan when I first got it.
I didn't choose it - My wife bought it for me as a surprise. I would have preferred worn cherry, but they didn't have any in stock.
The colour has definitely grown on me though. I contemplated spraying it or filling the grain... But I've come to like it. It feels like
a beaten up old guitar that I've had for decades.
I will never get rid of this guitar, or change the finish.

I like it.
Working mans guitar.

2014 G-400 Faded. Bone stock and the stupid stickers are gone. Deserves the better pickups sitting on my workbench (not pictured) but the stock ones are OK enough I just havent gotten around to it.

EDIT:
Every picture I post lately gets auto rotated for some reason.

Zounds!!!

I have a 2004 Gibson SG Special in worn Cherry and really like it. I prefer the gloss finishes too, but this has grown on me.

Something that has worked in other forums (fora?) is to open the pic on your phone or computer and edit it ever so slightly - a minor crop perhaps - then resave. Try posting the edited version and see if it auto rotates.

All my pics are copied from my iphone to pc, then edited in windows paint resized by 50-60% or so they will not "file is tool large" error. Here and ETSG I get that error, other sites I dont. This just started today.

Ok. Sorry. Just trying to help.

No sorry, thanks for offering a suggestion. (y)(y)
Did I come off sounding like a prick? Didn't mean to, my apologies if so. I should have thanked you in the previous post.

Sophia with the knife is a symbol (much overstated) of my frustration over this turn of events.
I cant look at that without chuckling.

Personally? I really like the worn brown finish. So much that I was in the process of working a deal on a worn brown '61 reissue but it got swooped up at full price. Still want to get one some day - they look bitchin' when they wear.

I also move photos from phone to PC.
I use "paint" to resize down to 30% then uploading works every time.
I suspect it depends on the size of photo you start with is the key.
