I think it must have been designed by someone junior who didn't quite understand mechanics - or the meaning of words like Roller.

I've never used a Wilkinson, but I presume those internal rollers do actually roll?
Yeah. The LSRs are like that.
I’d just go with a Graphtech nut. They’re made with a really nice profile, they’re plenty hard, and slippery enough for vibrato use.
I have considered that option too.
You mean with a traditional Strat bridge or a Floyd?
If you’re not going to have a locknut, there’s no point in having the Floyd.
Yes. I like the sensitivity of the fine tuners on the Floyd. I would make the switch just for that benefit. After really playing a lot with the tremolo, I feel the locking nut is completely unnecessary. The major benefit is see to the locking nut is no fitting or setup, but I am also yet to see any Floyd equipped guitar with correct 1st fret string height...

Would something like this help you out of your string tree conundrum?

Robert’s Strat? The one he wants different string tree spacers for? A CS Squier? The Strat has those type of tuners. Maybe the CS guys didn’t think it needed trees.
