NOD build

I do see your point.

Believe me, I do get it. I can’t say I’m an all-knowing expert in the world of construction. But, we do deal with it fairly often.

It is a different kind of environment. The interrelationships between contractors, subcontractors, architects, building management, and customers can get kind of dicey.

It seems like I encounter some new thing all the time that makes me mutter, “You gotta be kidding me!”

I would not have messed with something substantive. My construction skills are medium to poor, as you all have witnessed! But this was a sticker, and it was souring the relationship. Things would have gotten heated if he tried to stick me with the bill. My action was probably the lesser of 2 evils.

Change orders--- we deal with those in the asphalt biz-----yes GC's HATE change orders-- mostly because -- they have to do MORE PAPERWORK--- ro MAKE A PHONE CALL to the property owner-- and if that is a corporation with multiple people -- it can take weeks to get a change order passed---
That said --- a good GC builds in a certain amount of "wiggle cost" --- and seeing as it was a simple decal removal---I mean really come on-- no change order is needed for that -- remove it -- and SEE if you need a new door or not ---
TRUTH---seems to me the GC liked having the door you couldnt SEE through at the entrance so if they are in there DICKING OFF on billable time--- someone could shoot a video of it ....and then they gonna have to do a REFUND not a change order------

I just had "words" this morning with a new GC client----- who bitched about "your paint is coming up and peeling all ready" (RARELY does this happen within 5 days of us striping a lot) -- he wanted me to send the crew back out to touch it--- when I told him I WILL GO LOOK AT IT ----- he got rather quiet but said "o.k." (he didnt realize I was 5 min from the location when he called--and I didnt tell him!--

Now --- look at this picture (if you look close you can see chipped white paint on stripes and woords) -- now look what the GC has sitting back parked against the wall---which was used to install the PALM TREES -- AFTER we striped --- a front end loader with metal treads-----(shouldnt be used on concrete and asphalt ANYWAY) --- so THEY screrwed up scheduling (shoulda done trees THEN stripes)
dq.jpg

THEY "F'ED" up OUR work-- and are (or were) trying to back up on US to come fix it free --- when THEY need to at least pay our "on site" fee----typical of a new client--- gonna PUSH it to see how we work-- so they know how they can BEND US OVER in future------

LOOK CLOSE in the pic you can follow the track from the small blue flag----right BACK TO THE FRONT END LOADER!!!!!!!! idiots

so Ray--- ultimately YOUR THE CUSTOMER---- regardless of change order they SHOULD make you happy

I guarantee if de Blasio wanted that shite off the door it woulda been off with NO MENTION of CHange orders---

Speaking of change orders...

Sometimes, I write “No Cost” change orders. These are a “CYA” thing. For example, if it was proposed to put a camera on the left wall, but now they want it on the right wall, the change order covers us in case someone complains later that the camera isn’t on the left wall. Granted, this is a pretty minor example, but you see the point. Sometimes, an email suffices, but you can never be too careful.

Congrats and Enjoy!
(just not quite the same as a New Gear Day.....)

Always nice to see the collection of the proper number of these:

Thanks! It is being completed today, but inspector does not come until 2/26, so we waste 8 precious days and I have to move in 2 days. Ugh!

Frustrating, I’m sure.

Some customers we have worked with have to do their moves over a weekend. Is that the situation you’re in?
