I know people (and am good friends) with people who come off like Joe-- some dont have a pot to piss in---
ITs a speech cadence-- a mannerism (possibly) -- I mean he MIGHT be an arrogante-- but the folks I know who he reminds me of are not-- its the delivery--
I had a guy working for me once -- HIGHLY intelligent had 2 degrees-- (couldnt figure out WHY he wanted a job at a print shop) --- after working around him a week I realized why ---
AND in all my years in business HE was the ONLY employee a CLIENT ever threatened to SHOOT!!! -- and MEANT IT---he had a dead pan sarcasm -- bad sense of humor-- and many comments (that I learned were sarcastic banter) came off as just BEING A DOUCHE!
I think Joe has this same issue-- plus he has that "S" "slur" speech thing-- my grandson has the same ---so probably got picked on as a kid--
YES his playing is a little flat -- too many notes not enough Soul-- Like Yngwie in a way --
BUT -- I can sure say -- I would like to hang out with him on guitar safari--there is NO DOUBT he KNOWS much about guitars-- OBVIOUSLY greatly ENJOYS guitars---and weather he can play or not-- a guitar collector/lover who actually PLAYS and tours with them (not the "you cant touch it -- dont even look at it") Spinal Tap deal--
I respect the Ferengi in Joe B -- more than the guitar PLAYING ----
Interesting story about Randy Bachman. Last Wednesday I was at a songwriting class. We were talking about if you need to know theory to write songs. One of the teachers, Bill Sample, has worked quite a bit with Randy. He asked Randy what the chord was that started one of his hits. Randy’s answer was to show him the chord on a guitar. He had no idea what the chord was. He just played around with different sounds based on the root of the key and found one he liked. Bill doesn’t play guitar. He’s a keyboard player. He still doesn’t know what the chord was.My favorite guitar player is Randy Bachman. He has Soul when he plays. The feeling is there.

You cant watch this-- and KNOW -- the guy LOVES every PIECE of that gear-- ALL have a story-- hes not READING a teleprompter-- he knows-- he plays and he spends time with this gear-- not just "props" or stuff his "people" pick up for him
My god, that Flying V.
Couldn't have said it better. I've always found him to be open and honest, willing to share what he knows and geeky enough to talk gear with anyone. He's helping to keep guitar music alive and living the damn dream while doing it.
I am sure your a MONUMENTAL DOUCHE--- but see previous post-- I haev MANY friends who come off that way to others -- but really arent-- or I have Anti Douche Qualities? Or maybe I HAVE--I dont give a crap because really I just want to play with your gear so I tolerate you syndrome.????......its mostly the later probably maybe---but the result is the same---

I always say the wrong things....![]()
And then there are these V's, G
I suspect the one AL is playing is a cousin to the one JB bought from GC
He's a nerd who made it big and doesn't really know how to act. He is not smug. He is very friendly and was a VERY active member of another Forum until the
@$$holes kept piling on and drove him away. It's sad really...he just wanted to hang and talk gear and music, but some people just couldn't accept that.
Unlike many these days he's found a way to make $$$$ doing what he loves...playing music! More power to him. I love the guy! He comes in Norms Rare Guitars
out here in LA all the time.
Too many haters out there crying that the music scene is dead and then baggin' on people trying to play and revive it...
I don't understand what people dislike about the guy. Regardless of what you think of his playing and music, he strikes me as a really friendly, down to earth guy who just happens to be a successful guitar player. I love the Norms Rare Guitars videos he's in. He just comes across as a very genuine guy yo me. He owns a ton of great vintage amps and guitars, and he actually PLAYS them. He brings them out for people to see, both on the road with his band and to guitar shows. I'd much rather he owned these instruments than some guy just locking them up. And he still doesn't mind playing his Epiphone signature guitars live either.
I liked this one a lot too:
Yeah, it sucks. I remember when he would hang there and his posts were always interesting and informative...especially when the internet experts would try to "school" him about vintage gear. Sometimes trying to correct him about Bursts that he actually owns, haha. But he never really took the bait, was always respectful and gracious and obviously was just there to nerd off like everyone else. It was great, but the jealously wouldn't allow it to last unfortunately and I don't blame him for bowing out.
Y’know...
All this Bonamassa discussion has me thinking.
And, I’ve realized I don’t have a single Bonamassa work in my collection o’ songs. I tend to like concert videos, so I think I’m going to buy a Bonamassa DVD or BluRay.
I did see an acoustic concert on TV that he did awhile back. I think I’ll definitely get that one.
I’d also like to get one that is more typical of his work.
Any suggestions?
My favorite stuff he's ever done is with Black Country Communion.
Of his solo stuff, I really like the RAH DVD
Live From The Royal Albert Hall (Blu-ray)
And all the stuff he's done with Beth Hart is awesome
