Adding a delay tonight, for the first time in this band. Going to run it in the effects loop of the DSL40C.

Just to confirm....delay AFTER volume pedal so as to not cut the tails off the delay????

That seems to be the common wisdom, but it's easy to experiment with the order and see which you like better. Depending on the delay time it may make some funky artifacts when you pull the volume down.

Yes delay and reverb go after volume in the loop

Thanks, Dave...that's how i ran it and it worked out pretty good.

I actually found a One Spot in my music box with a receipt dated March of 2011. I had forgotten about this.

So, I took all of my effects with me last night. I put the CS-3, GE-7 and NS-2 in front of the amp and the DD-3 and volume pedal in the loop. I powered them with the brand new - still boxed One Spot and daisy chain.

Keep in mind that all of these effects were modded by Modest Mike a few years back for quietest possible operation.

Here's a snapshot from last night's rehearsal. My Korg Pitchblack tuner is always first in my chain:

I ended up setting the EQ really flat - in a sort of horizontal lighting bolt, but it did give a bit more ambience to the tone...subtle but definitely noticeable. I set the boost volume at signal level.

My best explanation would be that when the GE-7 was running, it seemed to brighten and enhance each aspect of my tonal range. Like the difference between an AM radio and a stereo.

Compressor was set conservatively without a volume boost, just to even out the signal.

I was running all Monoprice 3 conductor cables (with various jumpers) but the entire setup was super quiet. I was running fairly high volumes - around 4 on the knob and with the pedal wide open most of the time - and the rig was quite well behaved and manageable.

The delay was switched on only for solo parts and it did seem to compliment things. It gave them a fuller sound and the singer commented favorably on it immediately.

I was set to around 800 Ms with about 4 repeats and by itself, the delay sounded way, way over the top, but in the mix it was almost 'subtle' if that makes sense.

The low impedance Boss Volume Pedal is all metal and has a good feel. It was a big improvement over using my volume knob.

I'm not liking the "mess" the pedals create, but they did 'sweeten' things.

Maybe some small, well made pedal board - one that converts from a storage case to a board - would be a good investment???

My solution for the mess was one of these Boss pedalboards:

This isn't a picture of mine, but you get the idea. It got internal routing and power, and a clamshell cover with grips for easy transport. Best setup I've ever had for dealing with my pedals.

Looper, delay and chorus are in the amps effects loop. Tuner, phaser and OD are in front of the amp. I think at the moment I have a DS-1 on it instead of the Blues Driver, I switch them out with a fuzz depending on what I do.

Gotta say, I have never been happier with a pedal setup than I have been since I decided to sell all my fancy, 'spensive, bootique pedals and just go with a few lowly Boss ones (and my Crybaby).

I never have...live...but in this band, I am the only guitarist, so I am thinking about maybe trying my Boss DD-3 to make the solos sound a little bit fuller...

Ah, got it.

So, you've decided to try what the rest of us have been doing for years!

Welcome aboard the effects train!

I'm NOT big on effects. If we had a second guitarist, I probably wouldn't run a delay, but it helps with the thin sound....The compressor really balances things out too...

I’m a Boss fan too.
