Dear Mr. Goldmember, thank you, gracias, danke, grazie, salamat, obrigado, dank, and takk.
I can't thank you enough for the tip on the JJ ECC823 to tame the harsh fizzy red channel of my
Marshall DSL 15.
What a remarkable difference.
Got the tube yesterday and stuck it in V1 today and let er' rip. Man what a change.
Couldn't get the red gain over 4 or 5 before it started to sound like crap.
Really cleaned up the trash on the red channel, while the green channel remained untouched.
While I was in there I stuck a JAN Phillips 12AT7WC in V4, the phase inverter spot.
That also made a pleasing difference, though not as striking as the V1 change.
The phase inverter change seems to have brought out some clarity and touch sensitivity
that the amp was sorely lacking.
I can now dime the gain on the red channel, getting gobs of sustain without the squealing
and fizzy mess that it was on 4 or 5.
Lesson learned, when Goldmember speaks, it pays to listen.
Thanks again GM.
