SG choice

I don't have an SG. After two forum members have had success with Chibsons I was thinking about ordering one. Looks like a little over $300 Australian to my door. Spoke to my friendly local shop and told for less than $500 they will supply an Epiphone. About $150 extra and I can have genuine Epi, hmmm attractive I think.
My problem is not knowing the range and order of quality / desirability. I'll have to special order but will have the option to buy or pass once SG is in my hands. Would some kind member please list in order of desirability the 2016 / 2017 Epi range. With a list like that I can negotiate a deal with my eyes open.

Not sure what the $ is worth down there but, I'm guessing a nice Epi G-400...

BUT, how does the G-400 fit into the range?
How extensive is the range.
I'd be pi$$ed off if I buy and find out that for a small $ I could of had an XXX.
That is the question.

The G-400 Pro is the top of the Epi line at $359 USD before you jump to the Epi Custom models at the $799 USD price point...

The Gibson line starts at $799 USD with the Faded series...

I don't have one so I'll let someone else weigh in...

I agree. An Epi SG G400 or G400 Pro is way to go. New here, stock is $360. I've never played a 2016 or 17. Mine is a 2006. I know they come standard with set neck, alnico humbuckers, 18:1 ratio tuners, push/pull coil splitting and slim taper D neck profile. Great guitar!

Difference between G400 and G400 Pro?

They call the pickups Epi alnico classic pro buckers on the G400 pro instead of just Epi alnico classic humbuckers and the tuners may have a higher ratio 18:1 rather than 14:1.

Standard and Pro Epiphones are great guitars for the money, I miss both I used to own.

They will sound a bit muddy compared to a Fender or Gibson out of the box but a few mods and setups and they're workhorses for life, true rock machines.

If (a big and entirely personal IF) you feel that you want something that comes as good as it gets (sort of), get a Gibson SG Jr or Special faded, they aren't that expensive.

About the Chibsuns... Hmmm I wouldn't go down that route, although I don't judge the friends who do. I just think you can have something original and legal instead, like a good Epi.

Thanks Sergio, I've done some leg work today and found a good deal on an Epi black G400 Pro.
Before I act I'm now looking for a good deal on a Gibson and will decide after weighing up the advantages of one over the other.
Bottom line is I can stretch dollar wise, but I'm only a crap player who likes nice things.

IF you can --- play both first---- ultimately -- if you have a shop that carries BOTH that you can go and compare back to back---do it.
