Strategy for Super Bowl Season

So, here in the United States our regular football season is over, and the playoffs are about to begin.

There are two relatively local teams to me - the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens. The Redskins were eliminated very handily from any Super Bowl contention. The Ravens are moving on to the post-season.

So, here’s how I normally handle things.

When it comes to football, I am a hardcore, undaunted, faithfully-devoted, band wagon fan!

I wait until the post-season to decide which team I will support for the Super Bowl. However, I pick one primary team to support and two backup teams to support. This gives me three band wagons from which I can jump on or off, as necessary. As you can imagine, I get a workout this time of year from jumping on and off band wagons!

So, here’s how I have things slotted for this year:

Primary Team

Chicago Bears

Reasons:

1. I am originally from Illinois.
2. I like saying, “Da Bears!”

Backup Team 1

New England Patriots

Reasons:

1. My wife is from New England.
2. Their silver uniforms look flashy.

Backup Team 2

Baltimore Ravens

Reasons:

1. I currently reside in Maryland.
2. Their uniforms are black and purple, and purple is my daughter’s favorite color.

(Note: the Ravens could move, without notice, into my primary ranking. One of my favorite rock bands is Deep Purple. So, the purple connection could supersede other considerations.)

So, what’s your Super Bowl strategy?

I'm from Philadelphia. Last year shocked me. We are hopeful, but realistic fans. I like a few other teams too.

I do love football. It's a team sport that allows for individuals to show their talent. It's quick action too.

This is very well crafted and funny, too. Especially the "Bandwagon" attitude...

First: It would have to be the L.A. Rams.
I'm an L.A.-anything fanboy, since I was born and raised there my first 27 years of my life.

Second: For the first time ever in my bandwagoning... the Kansas City Chiefs. This team really has a lot of exciting players, primarily in Patrick Mahomes II, and a great coach in Andy Reid.

Third: A team that I used to hate with a passion until a couple of years ago... the New England Patriots. "Deflategate" was the biggest political B-S due to Commissioner Robert Goodell's spineless leadership. Tom Brady (G.O.A.T.) came back after his suspension and spanked all the opposing defenses and pretty much gave Goodell the F-U that he deserves so well... :dood:

Dark Horse: The Philadelphia Eagles. Ironically, I was rooting for the Eagles to beat the Patriots last year. They managed to barely sneak into the Playoffs this year!

The last game of the season between the Eagles and the Redskins was officially a home game for the Washington Redskins, but more Philly fans showed up than Washington fans. On TV you saw more green than red and the cheering for the Eagles was louder than for the ‘Skins. One of the Eagles players actually posted to the Eagles Facebook page thanking the fans for a second home game! I got a kick out of that.

I don’t dislike the Redskins, or anything. They just haven’t made the post season enough to figure into my carefully-crafted band wagon strategy!

Now...when it comes to hockey, I’m more loyal.

Thanks!

Yeah the Redskins has had so much bad luck with quarterbacks, that they would have been much better with no luck at all!

Havent watched an NFL game in years---- by birth I am a Cleveland Browns fan -- so really -- whats the point--on any SUNDAY-- we lose-- so .......

YEs I could "adopt" the Tampa Bay Bucs -- or the Dolphins -- or even the Jacksonville Jaguars........but-- it seems like way to much work----

Then you are a perfect candidate to join Smitty’s Bandwagon Bonanza!

Being a bandwagon fan has some perks. You get to pretty much ignore the regular season and pick a few teams at random going into the playoffs.

This year, hometown loyalties are part of the equation for me, but it doesn’t have to be that deep. Your rationale can be because you like the uniforms, or you like the logo, or a player’s name reminds you of your favorite food at Taco Bell.

Then, if your primary team doesn’t win, one of your backups may.

It really is the best way to go - all the excitement of winning a championship with none of the regular season preoccupation.

No pain...no pain!

that sounds complicated----

Naw...it’s easy.

You’re not picking your favorite team. You’re picking choices for the Super Bowl. In fact, the point of being a Bandwagon Fan is NOT to pick a favorite team to follow through the regular season. That’s just too much work. The point of being a Bandwagon Fan is to latch onto a few teams in the playoffs so you can join in the excitement. You don’t have to worry about stats and stuff. Who’s got time for all that?

Let me help you out....

Here are your choices this year, in no particular order:

New England Patriots
Philadelphia Eagles
Indianapolis Colts
New Orleans Saints
Baltimore Ravens
Chicago Bears
Seattle Seahawks
Dallas Cowboys
Houston Texans
Las Angeles Chargers
Las Angeles Rams
Kansas City Chiefs

Okay...Let’s pick your primary team. Keep in mind, you can change these around.

Let’s see...you have a lot of animals around your yard. Horses are farm-type animals. A colt is a young horse.

Your Primary Team is the Indianapolis Colts.

Now, for your Backup Teams.

You like the movie “The Blues Brothers.” One of the songs in that movie is “Sweet Home Chicago.”

Your first Backup Team is the Chicago Bears.

You like Peavey. Peavey is headquartered in Mississippi, which is right next to Louisiana. New Orleans is in Louisiana.

Your second Backup Team is the New Orleans Saints.

See how easy that was!

The point isn’t to settle on a favorite team. The point is to have a cheap reason to celebrate.

Now, a word of caution...the Bandwagon Fan strategy does NOT work in hockey. There’s really bad juju if you try it with hockey.
