His last thread was “cold turkey” where he said that he needed to concentrate on non internet life, and his personality historically has required an “all or nothing” scenario. He’s not good at just occasionally checking in...he becomes too absorbed, and his surrounding relationships suffer.
He felt tha he needed to stop, and concentrate on matters in the world directly around him.
Hi, my name is Wav and I'm a digiholic.
<fellow members reply Hi Wav>
I can understand how becoming absorbed in things can take a lot of your focus away from other things. I can understand being overly obsessed with something to the point you shut out everything else around you. I have done this, sometimes I still do. Well actually, this is my way of life. Mrs Wav has mentioned this to me more than once, not sure how many times more than once because I was focused on what I was doing at the time. When I start a project I become obsessed with completing it. Any spare time I have is devoted to the project of the time. Mostly these projects involve a computer. I spend most of my waking time in front of a computer. I just added a computer to my car so I have internet access on the go. I prefer a full size computer, I hate using a cell phone to do a computer's job. Give me a full size keyboard and monitor please. I see people walking around, crossing a street, shopping in the mall, driving to where ever and they all have their eyes glued to their phone. Parents give their kids their own phone so mommy and daddy can focus in on their phones. I've sat at a table for a big family function and watched a family member text her husband from across the table rather than speak out loud. I can understand if they needed to say something in private, but they never said one word to each other verbally. I don't like being on a phone if I can access a computer. I've taken breaks from my computer to work on a guitar project or car project, but I keep coming back to this terminal to get my digital fix. At this point in my life, this digital addiction is not costing me money, it is putting money into my pocket so I can justify my addiction. If the power ever goes out, like off the grid kinda power outage, I know I'll be jonesing doing the cold turkey blues.
For some perhaps one post is too many and a thousand posts are not enough. I hope that Tony is able to find that place where he is able to enjoy multiple things around him both in the real world and our digital world without compromising either.
HEre ya go gang -- in the mans own words---perhaps my dicking about was just me dicking about---
-- but he was wanting a break from the webworld--
Cold Turkey.
Thanks for the link to refresh my memory, I do vaguely remember this now. I just ran across one of his posts and wondered about him.
