ESP Guitars

I never should have sold mine

Yup, sure don't see to many ESP on here. My buddy used to have a DV8, I thought it was a heck of a player. I had a chance to buy it, but didn't think it was my style. Kind of regret it now.

Bocc/Notes what kind of money was your friend asking for that Mustaine? Have you seen any others for sale and what price range?
I have also always liked ESP guitars.

The way I see it, is that The "real to original form" ESPs are made in Japan. You know they got some bada$$es there, that know how to build guitars. Then came the LTD line for a more affordable "ESP". LTD's are made in Korea or Indonesia. But...... about 4 years ago, ESP opened up the ESP USA manufacturing plant. Obviously, this is were ESPs super high-end stuff comes from. North Hollywood, Californy!

Back to your comment about bad A$$$es that know how to build guitars in Japan... My Fender Steve Harris Bass was built in Japan. While not being an American USA made, it is also so nicely made that I would say the money I spent to get the quality, sound and feel is spot on. I can see why Steve Harris used this bass for so many years of his career.

I also was reading a post listing many of the California made guitars. Did anyone mention Charvel?

Funny -- back in the lawsuit era 70's Lotus and others got in deep trouble for making Japanese ---quality-- guitars and flooding the us market-- Harmony -- Hondo- Tokai -- now many years later these 70's era guitars can bring TOP dollar-- (more even than USA made originals of the copies) they are prized for their craftsmanship and quality -- and I dont believe they even HAD a CNC machine at the Lotus plant that was all HAND done back then.,.....now fast forward to today.....

The "JUNK" guitars that people poo pooed in the 70's and 80s -- are now sought and the CHINA and INDO "junk guitars" today are poo pooed and ridiculed as crap----yet the build quality tolerances and level of finish are BETTER due to technology-----

So I wonder--- if 40 years from now -- nubes on a guitar forum will be looking for a 2010 Indonesian Squire strat (for 1500.00) because the quality of REAL wood (which isnt allowed to be used for guitar building anymore in 2059 by law) as an INVESTMENT piece?????????????????????????????

The only real issue I see with that idea is the hardware, for the most part, can be of questionable quality. The wood construction is a totally fair point, but the bridges, nuts, tuners, pots, wiring, and pickups vary wildly in quality...so original condition examples may not be the greatest thing. Of course there may be/are exceptions, I’m sure.
My Gladiators are hanging in pretty well after 8 years...I’ve only swapped out the Wilkinson humbuckers in one, but the other is still originally equipped. They have both been aging well so far though. I doubt that they’ll be “worth” much of anything in my lifetime...other than being good playing, solid guitars. (At least I hope so)

Adrian, before I bought my Memphis made ES 135, I was looking at a Lawsuit Era Ibanez 2335 ES 175 copy that was a beautiful and well made Natural finish guitar. I'd have bought it had the nut and neck not been so narrow width wise. It was like this one.

True Bastard ---but we all know its easy to swap those "cheapo" metal bits out-- and many of us do that even on guitars cost 1000.00 or more----
Im just pointing out what WAS TRASH and hated is now sought after and VINTAGE -- so maybe we need not be so quick to POO POO the current onslaught of foreign stuff because one day it maybe revered and valued......or at the least appreciated.....
