New Kit

oh --- I SEE SAID THE HALO

It's a strange look, only shows in certain light, well now it does, after sand and polish who knows but I'm thinking it will be more pronounced :-(
Just finished with the bridge, the action is set deliberately a LITTLE high for now, want to sneak up on whatever. Stripped in back to husk and after this (enjoying now) early Sunday lunch will start wet sanding. Will see how I go re a photo of a polished surface and halo.

"halo effect".

First photo taken inside with good morning light, no halo only the orange peel surface from final coat of poly to be wet sanded and polished.

Second photo taken in full sun coming through window. Milky rings all over the body.

I've been told the only fix is to sand the lot off and start again. This project has taken so long that if I do decide after sanding and buffing it's unacceptable, no problem, I can roll with that.
I wish this was the biggest problem any of us had.

Orange peel and halo effect have gone ... GREAT!
New problem :-(
Scratch and swirls, bummer.
After final wet sand with 2,000 paper it's only had a minimum of polishing so I have confidence I'll clean MOST of them out. I may come back to this problem in about 8 weeks allowing poly to harden further, it's only 2 weeks since it went on and it's winter here.

EDIT, After looking at the posted photo I must say, in person it doesn't look as bad as the photo, but that's an eye opener as to how much work is in front of me.

Well, today most of the swirls and scratched were polished out so I decided to assemble ...

I'm SUPER happy with the result ... but one last problem showed itself. The high E string is touching the cone cover, after a couple of beers I decided to correct tomorrow.
Red pick shows the contact point :-(
Very happy with the tone, just one more string to get into the tune :-)

I think the KCW Custom Guitar Works has SCORED another WINNER!

If "KCW Custom Guitar Works" ever try to sell a guitar at break even cost the hours would kill it there and then. They'd have to file just as the competition (Gibson) did ;-)

Excellent work G.

Thanks, undeserved high praise, I've seen what you can do.

That looks really good, Gasket. That chrome is very reflective! Hope that string clearance issue doesn't turn out to be a PITA.

A PITA, yes but only a small one. My son (the real player in the family) just left and he had it sounding sweet, I'm happy! Now to the workshop to kill the rattle from the high E string.

Finish line crossed today :-) :-) :-)
Three talented players each gave it a test run this afternoon through a big VOX amp and honestly I was blown away just how it sounded. One played blues, one tweaked a cool jazz tone and the third 60's & 70's rock. Knowing what's hiding inside that little homemade box has inspired me to practice longer.

I was asked for an audio sample of the reso kit on the building forum by a member just starting his new build.
May be of some interest here, I think it sounds OK for something I made at home and still has cheap pickups.
EDIT, my boy playing but I announced and held the phone with great skill.

phone placement is the true skill here-- if that phone is not in the right place a the right angle for the duration of the sample--- its all going right down the crapper---

WELL DONE GASKET--- Grammy Material there (for phone mic placement in a sound sample clip) of course!!!
