Jangly/Twang 'G' String:

Breakthrough!!!!!!!!!!

I've been irritated by the jangle for a while now on several guitars...

Keep in mind this Sitar-like effect is only present when plugged in and will persist even if dampening the strings behind the bridge and nut.

Can you post a sound clip of this jangly sound?

Do you notice better sustain with a wound G, versus a plain string?

Oh, and the wound 'G' string does eliminate the jangle, but its present with a plain 'G' of any gauge...much like the 'G' string Wolftone on a Stratocaster disappears with a wound 'G' but is present with a plain 'G' string.

I now have a couple of pickups on my bench that will immediately create the Sitar-like effect on any guitar they go in - regardless of scale or bridge design.

Its been the pickup itself all this time and I never suspected it!!!!!!!

Now my questions are, ONE particular pickup or one type ( with the same type magnet) ? Did you get it with your Faded SG and the Stock pups? I know it had all sorts of other hum annoying issues.

I also will ask, do the wolftones lessen or subside if you lower the pup as far as it goes?

Chili,

It seems to be related to Alnico V magnets!!! The presence of a cover does not affect the condition. Screwing the 'G' string pole piece down reduces - but does not eliminate the jangle.

Stratocaster Wolftones - dropping the pickup down about flush almost eliminates the condition...
