New Speaker for Fender Pro Junior

I have a tweed covered original PJ. The original speaker got swiped during a warranty repair. I had put in a Weber Sig 10 alnico magnet speaker in it. I decided to swap it out for a Jensen P10R alnico magnet. I've had excellent tone from my P8R Jensen in my Vibro Champ so I'm going for that type of speaker tone for the PJ. I know there are two different amps. The VC is a Class A and the PJ is a Class AB. PJ has solid state rectification instead of a 5Y3 tube like the VC.

The search for the magic tone know no bounds. I hope you like the results.

I went from a Ragin Cajun to a Jensen P10R in my Pro Junior III. The Jensen is a much better speaker in that amp. It gives you a little more headroom and is not as woofy when you crank the volume. I rented a Pro Junior IV that comes stock with the Jensen. I was blown away and immediately put one in my Pro Junior III. I still think I like the IV better. It has a better taper on the volume pot but with the Jensen it is very close to the tone of the IV.

My over all favorite speakers at the moment are Warehouse speakers. But, generally I just use what comes with an amp unless the speakers blow. More of a because I'm too cheap to buy a speaker if the one I have is working - lol...

They make some cool speakers. WGS rocks with the speakers they put together. I believe they are built here in the states. The parts are from outside the USA. Overall I like the tone from their speakers.

Eminence is making some wonderful stuff these days. I did not care for their tone as much back in the 70s, when Fender was using them in their cabs and combos. The original speaker the PJ came with was an Eminence blue frame alnico horse shoe shaped magnet. It sounded decent but I feel the chime I'll get out of the P10R will conjure the mojo I'm looking for from this cool small 15 watt combo.

Yep, it's the tone I like. They just seem to sound good over all. But, man, there are SO many speakers out there now days. It's like mental breakdown trying to figure out which one to spend your coins on.

It'll be interesting how you hear the difference. Speakers can obviously make quite a big difference to the tone, and a speaker swap is a relatively cheap(ish) way to get some more sounds - cheaper than buying a new guitar, amp, etc, and you can always swap the old one back in.

I got the Jensen yesterday and installed it. What a major difference. The Weber Sig 10 appears to be a weaker clone of the P10R. Once you get up to 6 on the volume, there is a beautiful musical sounding juicy crunchy goodness. I have a first issue of the PJ and this circuit is excellent. I'm running the OEM tubes also. I have tried all current production Mullards in this combo before. They sounded fine as well. In all due honesty, with this speaker it sounds better than the original Eminence it came with. This original speaker was not bad at all also. I used a Strat Special to test it with. I still need to check it with some humbuckers.
