The hill near our house is burning and it's getting closer. Here's a picture I took looking northwest over our back fence....

Good Morning! I am happy to report nobody lost a home in this fire. Thus far a couple of fences are the only casualties.

Our home is not on the perimeter, but it was in the 'danger zone' so to speak. We were in the first group to get the evacuation directive.

I took only the double neck with me, as all the others could be replaced more easily.

In our area, we routinely have 35-40mph winds with gusts to 70-80mph, and those greatly accelerated the fire's progress. We often see big rigs blown over on their sides here and stop sign posts kinked.

We got the 'OK' to return home at 2:59am... :)

Hope and prayers you and your family stay safe Robert, and your property comes through unscathed.
EDIT: your follow up must have posted while I was typing.

Thank you! The scariest part is the mass panic. There were people crashing into other cars, which blocks exit routes, and then just abandoning the cars and running, making getting out of the area very difficult...

Glad to hear the danger has passed you by. But I know that even when your own property didn't burn down the effects of smoke can be unpleasant and lasting. I hope the clean-up doesn't take too long.
