Didn't see another thread so, thanks to all who have served. My dad was a WWII vet and my older brother a Vietnam vet.

We proudly fly our flag for all those who did not return. Never forget...

I am glad that society finally recognizes the contributions that our servicemen give to our great country.
When I would return from a deployment . . . well times have changed for the better.
To all my Brothers on the TTR who served their country, which ever one it may be, I salute you.

They stopped the draft just before I turned 18 which was good for me because I was already a father at this young age. I did not serve in the armed forces, however I do have family that did. Thank you to all of you that put your butts on the line so I could stay home and raise my family. If it were up to me, I would have preferred that we all could have stayed home with our families. I thank the vets that served our country and salute all the vets that served other countries.

I too did not get drafted -- though I did register--My Father was a medic in Vietnam, Grandfather stormed the Beaches at Normandy and was a MOTORCYCLE COURIER in Europe during WWII earning a purple heart--
My great Uncles where all OVER WWII -- one was at Iwo Jima-- another helped release Concentration camp survivors--and still a third was in the Navy and survived Pearl Harbor........... I had a Great Grandfather in WWI--------upon reflection over the years I questioned WHY my very Military family never pushed steered--directed or TRIED to get me to serve........though they all served proudly they never spoke MUCH of it--- never wanted to "discuss" it---Im assuming they intentionally didnt want to glamorize or steer me in that direction for my protection-- to a one I miss them all, every day . Thank you Guys -- hope to see you again one day and hear all the stories of old :)

I thought the military was a great experience. I really had a great time and really like where I was stationed. Did my basic and AIT "advanced individual training" at Fort Dix NJ, from there I went to Fort Ritchie MD, beautiful post. I was post commander's driver and VIP driver. Muenster Germany after that. Loved the country but hated my duty.
Muenster Kaserne - US ARMY Babenhausen Kaserne 1901-2007
It has since shut down and pretty much deserted. It was a Nuclear storage facility and again I hated the duty..

Like Wav, draft ended a few months before I turned 18. Both my Dad and Father in law served. Dad, Army. FIL, Navy. Both Korean War era but neither served there. Dads best friend in the world was killed in Nam. Not sure Dad ever really got over that.

So yes. Thank you to all that served and never forget the ones that never came home.
