Dang G, didn’t know you were a Baltimore guy too. Both houses I grew up in were just off Rolling Road, one in Catonsville, the other in Westview Park. My older sister had a horse stabled at a farm that later became the Security Square mall at Rolling Rad and the 70. As a young teenager I watched the 70 get built and me and my buds would ride our bikes on there. My parents second home was a stones throw from the 70 and 695 interchange.
 
LOL and in the mid 70's at a time before I could drive. Our parents would take us from Cockeysville over by Rt 40 to go skateboarding at Concrete Wave skateboard park near Rolling Road.
 
Funny thing Don, G is from here. U and me, plus I believe at least 2 more guys.
And bro Smitty is just a little bit down the road in the Waldorf, Charles county area.

Yup. Was actually born in D.C. but grew up in Columbia and Ellicott City. Been in CA for just under 22 years now, and since my parents died have not been back to the East Coast but it'll always be "home" and I will always be an Orioles fan.

Hell yeah! That was the first park I ever skated. Cried when they shut it down, but I did keep skating. So Cal is littered with great skateparks and I frequented them until about 3 years ago when I got a hernia and my Dr. told me I had to cut it out or risk more of them. I do miss skating.
 
Progressive, isn't the something they tag to music to make it sound more intellectual and snooty? Just baby-goat'n. I have progressive car insurance, but I'm fix'n to ditch Flo here when renewal comes around.

Heck, I remember when they first started building Columbia. Damn nice mall went in and I ice skated on that lake every year until I moved away to go to college. My mom's best friend owned a 3 story building on Main Street in EC back in the 70s. She had a shop on the first two floors and storage on the third. The recent floods have been very unkind to EC.

We moved to Columbia in 1971. The mall was still under construction, and the whole city was about 1/4 the size it is now, surrounded by farms on all sides (to this day there is a grain silo just behind the back yard I grew up in). Last time I was there was 3 years ago for my mothers funeral, and the place has changed so much I was getting lost driving around the streets I grew up on. I saw this article when it came out and I had to laugh a little:

1. Columbia, Md.

I could. not. wait. to get out of the place when I was in high school (Oakland Mills). I thought it was the most boring place ever to grow up. Left for college and never lived there again, haha.
 
Ellicott City Seems like a dumbazz idea is all I can say.
Columbia, only thing I ever enjoyed doing there was Merriwether Post Pavilion for concerts.
 
Did either of you guys ever shop at Vennemans or Chuck Levins? As a kid I used to go to a music store in Hillendale and saw my first LP customs there, and also when I was a little older I'd go to Gordon Miller Music. I tried my first Strat there. It was a natural finished big headstock one I played through various Marshall's there.

Oh yeah, shopped at both a few times over the years. And Atomic in College Park. But Bills was my usual haunt - I knew the guys there well and got great deals.

I think Vennemans moved at one point and then got taken over by Guitar Center?
 
Gball, I got my Mesa 4x10 Diesel cab with David Eden speakers in it at one of the old Atomic locations about 15 + years ago.
My most recent trip earlier this year to their new location yielded me my ES 135. Having been hunting a full bodied ES 175 or good copy like the Ibanez's, I almost gave up in not finding a good one until I walked around the store which is now strewn with countless guitars not displayed very tidy or even very well for not jacking up the finishes, heads, tuners etc, I spotted the ES high up on the wall behind the counter. After a little consult with our member Mdubya and Luis @ Atomic, I was parting with lots of $100 bills. Then, it was mine.
