Prog. Just how wide ranged is the genre?

Many folks would place my favorite band Rush as Prog. In a 40 year career, their songs are quite diverse.

Some of my other entries into the fray will go as follows, please comment or add insights into your favorite Prog bands.

Yo Chili!!!! Looks like we grew up with the same vibes! Mahavishnu, Weather Report, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Chick Corea, Return to Forever was what I was listening to as a teenager. I also enjoyed the more main steam rock like Yes, Pink Floyd & ELP that most know who they are. I don't know too many other people that enjoy jazz and jazz/rock fusion.

I know that Drumoid will like these

gball, When I was waiting for my first Pearl drum kit to come in, my buddy who worked the the sadly defunct Mars Music store told me that

Rod Morgenstein and Mike Portnoy were giving a drum clinic one day and the next day a free show of Steve Morse and the Dregs plus Mike and Dream Theater.
What an awesome concert one of these bands would have been, but both in one night and free to boot.

How bout this guy, gball?

Love Zappa...when I am in just the right mood. It can be a little much to listen to if you're not craving it, kind of like Primus. But when you need a fix nothing else will do.

Plus, Frank is from Baltimore so he's a homey, right?

Mars music was rad (the one on Rolling Road, right?). I used to go in there whenever I was home visiting the folks. Shame it went away. Bills is still going strong though, I assume? I got my first Les Paul at Bills in 1977.

But yeah, one hell of a clinic lineup. I remember they had that sweet stage in the middle of the store.

Nope, the Mars on Joppa Rd in Towson.

I saw a drummer named Larry Bright give a clinic there. Dennis Chambers was in attendance too. I did buy a kit I took back from the Rt 40 Rolling Rd Mars.

Gotcha. My parents were still living in Columbia when that store was open and I would hit it and Bill's just for grins whenever I was in town. Have a pit beef at Pioneer over by Security Square.
