Marshall garbage

I was very close to buying a 40C the night I picked up my Les Paul. I told the guy to ring one up for me. He went off to get it and never came back. I waited thief turned invisible. The weather was getting ugly so we left.
I bought a Fender HRD used and made in America. I am still very happy with the Fender.

JJs are made in Slovakia... which is kind of Russian!

might I inquire as to why??
I experienced consistent problems with JJ 12AX7's in older Marshall circuits. From static noise to plain old microphonics. And IMO, all other brands of tubes just seem to perform and sound better than the JJ 12AX7, in an older Marshall circuit. Even if Mesa did use JJs, which I doubt, at least they would filter out all the ones that are not up to Mesa's standards.

Thanks Sysco. It's been at least 8-10 years now it seems. So, all has been good with the Marstran. Smitty tried it out first hand as he played thru my 1/2 Stack with his and my guitars. Just a little more FYI on my amp, I chose JJ EL34's and think the amp sounds amazing. ( Far more amazing than the guy who normally plays through it )

I don't mind JJ tubes. I look for Western Europe stuff first. Seiman in Germany are very good and they have stuff matched so perfectly. Telenfunken tubes are still possible. Some days they think they are gold. I try to find out when a large medical build is done and go hunting. Mostly luck on everything else

I did fish a couple sets of Seiman Denfence 12AX7's they are even matched. Defence and I never thought those asshides could have a defense.

Tubes are getting so confusing. Many companies have bought others, some discardd the name and retained the production, while some just kept the name. Re-branding is a common occurence - Marshall, Mesa, Groove tube, Ruby tubes, and others do not actually make the product. Then, there are high and low gain versions of one model of tube. Oh, and the sound changes after you "burn them in". And don't forget to check your bias and your plate current. I must say, the whole thing is quite untenable for the consumer market. I predict their substantial demise in the next 5 years, once things of Kemper and Ax Fx quality get cheaper and more user friendly.

Solid... :yesway:. Brian Wallace has his transformers built to his specs by Heyboer Transformers.

Personally, I favor other modern brands like Tungsol, Mullard, EH, or Chinese tubes, over JJs. I don't like JJs, especially their 12AX7's.

I got some Ken-Rad pewter plate 12AX7's...

I once worshipped tubes...had all the hassles....overheating...bad tubes from transporting the amp...you name it.

Now, I have solid state amps that save my presets...are quiet and don't run hot...plus can be replaced for less than a set of tubes.

I don’t share in your experiences written above.
I always bring spares because of stories like yours.(for 30 years, I’ve done this)
I’ve never had to use a spare.
Sorry for those that have.
I still like some solid state, and play through a couple...almost pulled the trigger on another today.
But....I don’t worship...I use, and care for, my tools.

Yay!!! 2000 posts!!!!

My Peavey Valveking has indicator lights that individually turn red to indicate that a power tube is failing. It us a good rough indicator. I wish more amps had this. BTW, lately I like the sound of my Valveking more than my Marshall

Wow, I never even heard if these before. Pricey!
I am new to them also Ray. If you had seen the weird stuff on TV Sunday morning to pay for poly science TV shows. Seiman Medical is one.
They make and install MRI, PET scan, and CAT Scans. General Electric is one of their big competitions. High tech medical hardware is them. There tubes are great and are surplus by the time we see them. No the price is very fair.

GE is in bad shape, so they may be around a while!
