Lizzy was a woman my Mother knew when she was growing up in San Antonio Texas in the 1940's. My Mom wrote a song about Lizzy and recorded it a Buck Owens Studio (still standing today at 1225 North Chester Ave in Bakersfield, CA.) during the 1978 Summer Sessions.
Here's the original track from 1978 recorded on 3 inch master. We borrowed (the late) Bobby Gallardo for this session, who appeared courtesy of Capitol Records, and handled all the drums on the album.
In 2011, Mom approached me about rearranging the song and turning it into a blues style tune. Since my band (at the time) were already in the studio recording, we just switched gears and had Mom sit-in for this track. It was recorded in a single take with overdub vocals added later. I always felt like the vocals were, perhaps, a bit too busy, but gave Mom complete control over how she wanted it done.
Mom was 72 when we recorded this:
Crazy Lizzy MP3
