Are You Obsessed With a Particular Band?

I have always been obsessed with music in general and Rock Music specifically. I carried a transistor radio around since 4th grade when I was 9 years old. I have always delved into the history of a band and their music way before the internet.

Having said that, I seem to be obsessed with Pink Floyd. I love all their music and have every one of their records including those by each individual as a solo artist. I have every book I've been able to find. I have autographed photos and hundreds of bootleg recorded concerts.

I can catalog their shows almost from inception up until today with the live performances I have found online. I have terabytes of data storing these shows.

I am particularly interested in David Gilmour because his guitar playing just speaks to me. I have went so far as to build a copy of his Black Stratocaster!

Anyone else a psycho stalker? Don't worry I'm not going to try and eliminate him so I can become him...

no

I am passionate about several-- and will start a bar fight over KISS-- LEd Zeppelin-- Aerosmith and others--- but to be TOTALLY fair I have started bar fights over ---well LOTS of stuff non music related----so perhaps this is not a good gauge------

carry on

Obsessed is a bit of a strong word for me...probably the closest I come to lifelong obsession is also Black Sabbath, but I have at various times been "obsessed" with Led Zeppelin, Rush, Aerosmith, The Beatles, PJ Harvey, Urge Overkill...and a few others. I get into phases where I will listen to an artist almost exclusively for a couple of weeks and then go back to varying things quite a lot.

That's pretty much what I mean...maybe focused would be a better word for you.

I think I used obsessed for myself because I want to know everything I can about them, listen to everything I can find and collect memorabilia and such...

O.k --- O.k. --- I admit it -- I went through a "phase" ----- I had Shredder guitars and 6-8 BANDANNAS hanging off the bottom
---- yes--- I liked Cinderella!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Truth be told---------I still can play this sing !!! (not that its that hard) lol

Thanks Chris---
TBTH I can still muster Several actually--- and several more on bass.......and at least 3 on drums...... er maybe 4-- if I Can listen tot he song AS I play on headphones (yes I know) ---me and my band mates in school were all equally A.D.D. and would get BORED with our "chosen" instruments during practice and SWITCH up------ in retrospect it was GREAT FUN -- got you to think "outside" the box and open up your comfort zone---but to this day certain songs I ONLY know the drum-- or bass--- or guitar part and not the others---anyone in a band -- I recommend it highly at the next practice!

tell the drummer to piss off and get your guitar--- and pick a song and LEARN it from the OTHER chair so to speak---

I don’t know if I’d go as far as “obsessed”, but The Doors, Pink Floyd, Zappa, B.O.C., Tool, Rush, Sabbath, and Sleep...amongst others....have been of particular interest to me at some points in life. Enough to make me collect more knowledge than usual about other artists of interest to me.

Nope. I've never been obsessed with a band. There are some I've really liked for various reasons, but never obsessed.

My musical tastes are too eclectic and mish-mashed to be too focused on a single band.

Being too obsessed with a single band would be like cutting off the rest of your fingers because you thought your thumb was most important.

Hmmmm....I can relate, at least to some degree, with my tastes in food or wine for that matter. I am extremely focused. I like what I like and I really don't bother with experimenting and I never feel as though I missed out on anything. Musically, I am much the same way. I don't need a roomful of guitars, since I only attach to one or two - perhaps three - at the very most. I don't like to sound different. I dig my tone and stick with it. I like a guitar to have the same feel - and if I were to reach for a backup - I want everything to be as close to identical as possible.
