Just read this...you don't have to get one. A valid Passport works in it's place...at least in Kalifornia.

REAL ID Act

I'm not doing it because I have plenty of Federal ID and a badge. Thing is you have to go spend the entire day in the DMV to get it done...no online and through the mail business...
 
NJ DL is not in compliance with DHS REAL ID requirements, there is no new DL to get in NJ.
So, right my wife and I HAVE to scurry and get expedited passports, at $200+ each, instead of an updated, compliant NJ state DL.

I got the forms, our documents and contacted the local county passport office to verify hours of operation; we are going tomorrow after work at around 5:30pm.
I have emailed the local news "report a news tip" contact.

I am going to send the receipt to the Governor requesting reimbursement, try to deduct it from my state taxes, or short my property tax payment until threatened.
I wont get my money back but I am gonna be a ROYAL PIA.

Exactly; so as of today, there is no extension and we are within 5 weeks of our travel.
I know worse things happen to folks, but this is caused only by the incompetent SLUGS that dont have to do their jobs and still draw a paycheck.

The little guy, the working guy, is helpless.
I am so sick and angry over this - the torches and pitchforks thing really resonates.
